SOG, you may be onto something. Not may places did we cruise at much over 70mph. No where were we over 80, 90, or 100mph as the Mounties have been known to impound the bikes of out-of-country riders who incurred big speeding tickets. We actually talked to a group that had this happen to one of their riders.

If you're riding 100+ on the hot pavement down there, that's a likely source of the big difference in mileage we're experiencing. I'll have to go check my GPS, but I think our "moving average" for the trip was in the mid-50's.

Yup. Like I posted a bit back, I will posit that all the other factors (road surface, heat, rocks, wheelies, hard starts and stops) are together probably not as much the cause of tire wear on these knobs and semi knobs as "sustained high speed riding". Not much traffic where I ride (miles and miles and miles with zero traffic) and maybe 3 LEO's on duty in a big sparsely populated county (800-1000 sq mi) at a time. Once you have ID'ed where 1 or more are.....well. Let's just say things get highly spirited (as in "as fast as the bike will go in that given distance" spirited). And our LEO's spend almost zero time on unpaved roads therefore there apparently is no speed limit.

Think Isle of Man. Well, think IOM on a pig bike minus the highly skilled pilot. ;)

My profile says my dream ride is BC but me no likey the Canadian impound stories.

But when you look up and the speed limit sign say "110kph" it seems like your going fast !!.

Those are more worn than mine, but mine only have 1500 miles on them. I'll see if I can figure out how to post some photos for another data point. It's been a few years since I did it.
And SOG, I want to know what you have done to the GSA to go 120? I can remember when mine was maxxed out, took forever to get to 107 (on GPS). Like a mile long flat stretch of road to get there. I was loaded down, but still...

Front and rear tires are just shy of 1500 miles. I'm going to guess 60% paved, 40% dirt. Front is wearing fine, but rear went fast. Does the wear rate slow down at all?

My 07 has gone as fast as 126 GPS unloaded but not with knobbies and not recently. ghostrider's 08 will do 128 GPS with his effin' bags on. Grrr. Schizzman's camhead will do 130 GPS. I have to time my attacks. No long straights. ;)

Dealer mounted Karoo 3s on my bike and pumped 'em up to 38/44. Isn't that a bit high? What do you guys run by way of pressure on pavement? I'm in AZ and lots of slab -- hot slab -- to ride like it or not.

Man. That sounds high to me. Maybe 36/40 at most for me but I was running 38 in the rear.

SOG: I agree with you and will drop the pressure accordingly. I thought the ride back from the dealership was strange as the bike turned really quick (sort of nervous) and doubly so on the one mile dirt bit to my house.

Had my bone stock 07 GSA with all 3 bags up to 121MPH GPS indicated the day I picked it up. This is when I found out that the power comes on after 4500RPM :lol3. It had 36k miles on it then.

You guys are trying to get my ass in trouble. I know of a family of Ducati riders that have been needling my ass to go with them. Last outing they did 144 indicated. Don't know about this idea - they want to see how the boxer will hold up.

A few weeks ago I talked to another guy who gave me a heads up and said NOT to be the last in the pack when racing past a "man in blue". I sincerely hope he goes for color of the bike first...:D (meaning Ducati red)

    Edit - 38 / 41

I'd be interested to know if anyone riding lighter bikes have tried this tire. Something in the 650 range. I'd consider one for the rear on my mid-weight adventure but the front just doesn't seem up for the dirt. Anyone try K3s on Xchallenge, DR650, XR650, F650gs, etc....

Well, I couldn't stop myself. I ordered a set of the 3's last week. Going on a 08 1200GS. I do about 5% dirt now but during me 6k service I will be putting on some TT crash bars and with the added grip of the K3's I hope to explore many of the dirt roads in Hamilton, Bosque, Erath, Palo Pinto, Hood County, and others in that general area. Plan to bring my ratio up to around 70 / 30 - pavement / dirt.

I hope they last but if not I will slap a k60 or Tourance on the rear once the k3 wears out.

I am currently running the battle wings that came on the bike, great on pavement but less than awe inspiring on dirt and gravel.

lol. It is more of a futile attempt not to appear senile. Or as senile. Just in case we've rode together.

I think I have spoken / pm'd with you and Dody before a RTB rally a few years ago when I was wanting to join up with ya'll for part of your ride to Mary's.

I had also PM'd Dody for advice on an 05 1200gs around that same time.

I would love to ride with ya'll sometime but I was told that I might want to get used to the GS before trying to keep up with you and Ghostrider. I just got the GS last month so I would most likely not be able to keep up on dirt.

It's all lies. Don't believe what you read on the interwebz. In other news, I am at Loco a couple times a month. I will call you. Trying to get my Big Ugly back together. Apparently I broke her. Again. But I have a couple of other bikes to ride.
