Hi, can someone recommend a good website to purchase Mexico insurance. I will be going down baja and catching a ferry to mainland. Do you have to purchase 2 separate insurance or one would suffice? Thanks.

I deal with this agency in Calexico California. http://www.mexicanautoins.com/
They can set you up with liability insurance in a jiffy online. If you are staying in Mexico for a long time , or if you make repeat trips there during the year you would be well served by getting what is called "Drivers license "insurance, an annual policy. This sets you up for an entire year's worth of liability insurance on whatever vehicle you decide to ride /drive into Mexico during that year , and at a rate much less than you would pay for liability insurance bought per trip for the vehicle if you go for more than a month or come back on repeat trips.
Not sure why you would need to buy "two separate " policies. Explain please.
If you buy insurance you are covered for all of Mexico.

I think I'm having deja vu on this question because I think this topic of driver's license policies has come up before.

Simply put, as relates to motorcycle travel in Mexico, be absolutely SURE that the policy you purchase does not exclude motorcycles.

    Example from Bajabound (Link):

It pays to call the insurance company and ask specifically whether or not a drivers license policy will cover motorcycles, and then ask where this can be found in print on the policy.

I would get a week of liability to get me down to Puerto Escondido for the winter, $35. then buy another week for the trip back. Captain Tom

Look at the many websites that sell it and you will find that there are many that sell but only a few that underwrite the policies in Mexico. Medical insurance too? The place you contact when you actually have a need will be an 800# to the underwriter, so shop for the coverage and price not the sellers rep that matters so much once the policy is in hand. I have been buying from Mexinsure.com lately.

I've bought from www.Mexadventure.com many times. The policy I use is Ace Seguros with the Platinum travel assitance. Just got a quote for 13 days at ~$58.

I used the insurance when I had a bike problem and they rented a car for me to drive around Chihuahua while I waited for parts.

I spoke the the Mexadventure guys yesterday and they said that Ace has updated their list of bikes that can get comp and collision but the Mexadventure web site hasn't been fully updated yet.

If the web site won't let you buy it give them a call and they can help you out.

Good experiences with the stuff sold by bajabound. I actually had to use it when I got hit by a collectivo in Ensenada. Everything worked well. Even had an attorney on the line to talk to the police.

I'm sure others are just as good, but since I have actually used the seguros sold by bajabound and it worked, I keep purchasing from them.

Is bajabound good on the Mexican Mainland or only Baja as the name would imply?

Surprised there are no mentions of AAA. You can buy it through them also (on their website). No experiences to share, but been doing that same research today, which brought me to this thread.
