Anybody have any experience with this tire on an R1200GS or Adventure?
I put about 9 k on a set this year and they are ok, but I would go back to the conti trail attacks for a road oriented tire.
The trail attacks are smoother, and quieter, and I think they turn in quicker too.
Good to know. That is what I'm running now. They're great, just wondered if there was something better.
PR3 Trail up front, regular PR3 out back. Freaking love them. They're awesome in the rain, and hang on like crazy in the dry.
What kind of mileage are you getting?
I've only had them on the bike for about 2,000 miles. They still look new. I run them 38/42 solo, 40/44 2-up.
I just replaced a set that had 9k on them. I only put the last 3 k on but I really enjoyed them. Great street biased tire.
How do you compare them to the Anakee 2, which I love.
I never heard of the Pilot 3 trail.
I'd like to here some more mileage testimonials on the PR3... but since everyone rides differently, it might help if you included another common benchmark, like a Tourance or Anakee.
For reference, the rear Tourance lasted all of 5,500 miles, the front Tourance had 11,000 on it when I pulled it off, it probably could have gone another thousand or so.
Just installed today. The front is marked PR3 Trail. The rear is just PR3.
I have the 19" front 18" rear on my KTM 950 adventure, somewhere around 8,000 miles on them, rear is starting to get close, front looks just fine. That's almost twice the life of any other tire I've run on this bike, save for a Mefo that I gently rode to alaska and back. Love the grip and the confidence in the wet and on road paint, way way better than the conti trail attack in my opinion. The conti was ok on dry pavement, but it turned in too easy, and the rear stepped out a lot on wet pavement if there was even a hint of a tar snake or road paint.
It's just a size thing. I think the 120/19" tire is the only size in the line called "Trail".
Right, and the rear is available both ways. Motorcycle Superstore only carries the front Trail, so you'll end up with mixed tires from them. That's fine with me, as there's more of the softer compound on the regular PR3.
Ever try a Tourance or Anakee on your 950?
One of the primary reasons I came back to a dual sport bike was to get back on the Tourance and Anakee type tires for mileage. I ran 3 sets of PR2s on my last street bike and only got between 3-5k on them before they were wore a bald strip on the side. Tourance and Anakees have always lasted > 6-7k for me, including on a previous 600+ lbs 1150GS. Course bike geometry and motor differences can count for a lot and why I'm wondering if anyone is getting better mileage with PR3 than T or A from the same bike.
