Is the mascot required to claim the tag?

    example:
Rider A grabs the mascot and then heads to a location 300 miles away
Rider B shows up 10 minutes later, can't find mascot, but posts his grab via iphone (or whatever)

    Who would have the tag?

Respectfully disagree--that would advantage either the local, or the one most electronically connected. Keep the mascot idea--then advantage is to the rider, not the poster . . . . :deal

I personally am not a big mascot fan, to me the location is the important thing.

I have to say that, being someone who routinely has a 150-200+mi round trip tag run in NoVA, a mascot is the only way to go.

It's extremely nice to be able to Grab a Tag and then Drop off the new tag sometimes 100mi from home all in one fail swoop, w/o worrying about getting bruced. I think it should be about the ride, not the iPhone.

We usually go with the 1st mascot-free bruced photo gets to place the new tag if the mascot doesn't show in 12hrs or if there's any funny business (ie: cage-related shenanigans).

I think mascot-less tag discourages long-distance tag attempts. Just my 2c.

That is a really good point. I concede that the mascot makes more sense viewed like that.

I think the idea of having the mascot is a very valid one, it also gives a time line and proof that your bike, the mascot and the location jive together. There is the valid point too about someone gabbing the mascot to come back later with their bike to take the tag shot, but that seems like a lot of trouble and the odds that someone grabbed the tag before you and hadn't posted it yet are just as great. That said the game would still continue, if delayed by a bit.

I didn't mean to spark a big debate with my question, I just wasn't clear on whether the mascot was required or not.
When I go tagging I throw my laptop in the trunk so I can post as soon as I can find wifi, but that has not kept me from being bruced 150 or more miles from home. It's all part of the game, I just enjoy you guys showing me interesting new areas, and finding the fun roads getting there.

Game on, go get that slimey snail............

I guess rule #6 must go, as the poll will end tomorrow morning and the score is 8 for, and 21 against. Vote now or forever hold your tongue! :fitz

    That snail is getting lonely.

Can an area ever get too saturated with too many tag games?:dunno

Plus this is in northeast forums? Everyone knows all the avid tag players are in southeast forum...:lol3

I'll play, but it needs to be a bit warmer before I ride all the way up to grab the current tag.

Md tag and East Coast tag, both within 30 miles in a straight line of my location. Has anyone ever done a double grab before?:lurk

OOPS! Havre DeGrace, that's a little further out over yonder past Balmer town a bit. How bout you east side guys or Delmar??

The most I have gotten in one day was 4, but one was a wild card TOR. Neither retired or unemployed, but do work a shift conducive to riding for 4-5 hours a day if I so desire.

Irony is, been waiting for a year for the WV tag to come within 100 miles.:(: 8 hours+ of free time don't come often nowadays.
