I'm just wondering... Just about how much $$$$ would you get if you were to sell the bike? I believe BMW should make you an offer on your motorcycle just to display it in the Munich Museum as the most reliable bike they've ever made.
I've actually seen an article about a guy in Germany that did 600.000km in 12 years on his K75 RT and BMW agreed to service his bike free of charge for the rest of the motorcycle's life.
Oh yeah, and I've just passed 75.000km on my '97 1100 GS

My 1100 is about to clock up 160,000km/100,000miles. Nowhere near yours Hank but at least I have a new goal for it

It'll be museum quality at 500,000... but I'm not sure he'd want to sell it. Obviously he loves the bike or he'd sell it by now...

I sure hope this is true,but from my BMW experience I gotta wonder whether it's a put-on by the BMW sales dept.
A buddy and I stopped by Hank's shop yesterday, and his ride showed just over 450K miles after his big ride.

This is great stuff, I saw this old bike in the warehouse storage with 600K, we call it "the bike that's never been washed" Next time I'll take my camera, with me, I can't recall what model it is, though.
I think it's a late airhead.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but this is the bike you're talking about; was on display at Bob's BMW a few years ago. I've copied and pasted this from another forum where I did a little write up about it:
Bob also has on display the 600,000 + mile R bike of the late Fred Tausch. Bob was telling me that BMW offered Mr Tausch any new model he wanted as an even trade for his bike when it hit 500k, but he refused after they told him they were going to restore it back to original for their museum. After he died his daughter contacted BMW again to see if they still wanted it, and of course they did but said they were still going to restore it back to original. In keeping with Mr. Tausch's wishes, the daughter instead gave Bob "custody" of the bike because he agreed to keep it 100% in the condition as when Mr. Tausch last rode it. This is one unique motorcycle with a lot of stories under it's wheels.
Bob was pleased to be the custodian of Fred's bke, but at the same time he stressed that Fred had pretty much done the bare minimum maintenance-wise to keep his bike going. I took that to mean that Bob thought the bike wasn't exactly the safest vehicle on the road.
-There is no paint at all on the gas tank. It's down to bare metal under the 'bra'
-If you get to see it, take a look at the foot brake pedal...it's worn down to about half it's original size and the remaining part is shiny and smooooooth
-It definitely didn't look like the safest rig on the road. I'm sure that there are more quick fixes on this bike than anyone (even Fred) can count.
600,000 miles thats f***ing close to 1 million kilometers ... This is the kind of milleage that only trucks do in Europe ...
Tausch means "to exchange" in German. Nomen est omen , but in this case it didn't work out. What an amazing bike. Why on earth would they want to restore it?
