Well, I'm really going to do this.
I'm packed, got maps in the gps, insurance bought, bike prepped, arrangements made....
What could possibly go wrong? :evil

A little backstory. My wife Tammie and I take a winter vacation every year, and we have been to lots of places, cruise, Mexico, etc, and settled on PV as one of our favorites, we have been going there for the last 2 years now. We generally go with another couple [this year 2 other couples].
But every time we go I look longingly at those who drive down from the states for the winter and think how cool it would be to have that adventure.
So last year I really got the bug to ride down, but I didn't start soon enough in planning to make it happen.
The hook was set by this site and then last year I watched 3 guys go by in full gear on a couple of KTM's and a GS and I knew I had to do this.

So, on Tuesday Jan 26 [yes, I said January ] I will set off from Waconia Mn and head south.

I will update this thread as I go and as I am able [though it will not be heavy on photos , at least right away, I am not bringing the laptop, but I can do text from my Blackberry , I will try to add pics if I can get to a computer]

I am starting the thread now so I can link to it for family and friends that want to follow along.

    so this,
    [IMG]

needs to be consolidated into this
    [IMG]
    and fit onto this
    [IMG]

    which because of this
    [IMG]
will have to start in this :cry

We have been getting creamed by winter this year, but have had a break for the last couple weeks. I would ride from here if the roads were clear and the temps were at least 20f or above, but we are getting freezing rain and then snow this weekend, then single digits on Tusday so plan -B is for my good friend Tim [pic to be added later] to haul me south far enough to get to good roads.
I had originally made arrangements with an inmate from near Wichita to park my truck and trailer there for a while, but I have changed my plan.
[I do have a couple people that will come and get me on the way back if I get snowed in on the way back, or else I will rent a 1 way van]

So, a week in the sun relaxing, combined with a great adventure!
What could possibly go wrong? :rofl

Please feel free to chime in,[please keep it pg, some of my nephews will read this] and wave if you see me on the road!

I thought about doing the same thing this winter but didn't quite make it.
So instead, I'm leaving the twin cities Jan 29th, trailering to Ark then riding over to Florida for 10 days. Have a great trip

Well, it's 710 am, we made it to just north of the Iowa border and the highway is closed due to too many cars in the ditches from last night!
We stopped for breakfast and to wait.

edit: car in ditch- major face plant!

got across Missouri border, warmed into the low 20's and roads look good so.....

Not sure of your route but another winter storm is building. Should hit Nebraska tomorrow night. I'd go as far south as I could instead of going across Nebraska or Kansas. Good luck and ride safe.

Good luck on your trip! With parts of 35 closed south of Albert Lea and another storm coming this way, it sounds like a good start already. :rofl

If your looking for a little warmer place to stash the trailer, I have a girlfriend who lives just about an hour south of Oklahoma City who probably wouldn't even notice the trailer in amongst the horse trailers. If you want/need her contact info, just shoot me a PM.

Well, I trailered to the Iowa/Missouri border. It was 20 deg and the roads looked good.

It is now 745 and I am in Blackwell Oklahoma!

It felt really good to be riding even in the cold!

Through ok and as far across Texas as I can get tomorrow, supposed to be bad weather coming
