Boy the Missouri Fall colors were out in force---my be even better this next weekend.

I finished up a ride down thru Ky., Tenn., Miss., and Arkansas at the Falling Leaf Rally in Potosi, MO.
Met up with Jeff---MizzouRider------------were plotting some evil riding soon !!!!
Also ran into Gunslinger1----we got some single track to ride we decided.

Went to Bo's Hollow---just south of Montauk State Park----that place is just open the rest of this month I think and they
    will close for the winter.

Then rode thru Montauk state park.

I arrived at the rally and a friend grabbed me and said "You have got to see this"---------OK !!!!!
Honz--a friend of mine and owner of Gateway BMW in St. Louis had just bought this racing offroad sidecar rig.
He said---"I just had to have it"".
Honz is a wild a crazy guy------and everybody knows it------get out of the way !!!!!

    680cc's of rip snortin' 2-stroke.
Don't try to kickstart it---it will break your leg and you will bleed to death--------push start only !!!!
He ripped across the nice green grass on this thing slinging 10lb. chunks of dirt and grass in big clumps.
You could have laid a water line in the ditch this thing dug.
He almost threw off his "monkey" passenger---it was a hoot to watch and there was no way I was riding this thing.

My good friend Roger Hayes---been a friend for a good 35 years I think.
Like me------he's one of those cheap KLR riders---but had the latest in KLIM's line-up of adventure gear.

BMW rallying is brutal----no wonder I went home wore out.
There were about 15 of my hometown friends there and we had a hoot and tented in the worse storm I've ever been thru.
In the middle of the night tents went flying everywhere. It was said that people were chasing their tents across the rally ground
in the strong midnight winds-----many tents ended up in the dumpster------it was bad.
We all survived somehow----I guess we had our tent pegs dug in a little deeper than most.

My rear Mefo Explorer was bald.
There were a lot of vendors there and I had them put me on a new tire.
I took the wheel off myself and got it installed cheaper than if I ordered one and put it on myself. First time I've ever not put on a tire myself.
    Gettin' old I guess.
Guess I'll try out this Heidenau Scout and see how it does.

The calm before the storm--what a beautiful place to camp at the 4H grounds in Potosi, Missouri.
We burnt a lot of firewood that weekend.

If you want to read about my whole ride it's http://www.bigdogadventures.com/1ToFallingLeaf2012.htm

Of special interest is I did the newly laid out Mississippi Trans America Trail on this ride. The route has been changed drastically from the original.

+1.. Mark, it was great seeing you! You're my hero. I wish I could take the time and travel like you do. :deal

Hopefully, we'll get a ride in soon. I need to replace the chain and sprockets on the 650..

I'll likely be in the Eminence area Sunday. I'm camping at my property.
An overweight longhaired dude on a wr250r would be me. I hope to head over there later today to do
some work and then ride Sunday.

Saw several of you out at Rusty's today for the offroad poker run. Here is a small video of Ross and I riding the easy loop and a bit of floyd tower trails.

It seemed like a real good turnout this time. Lots of Huskys there to try.

I was there on my 690 to tool the 2-tracks & dirt roads. Also trying to sell my '07 KTM/Thumper Racing 320 XCF-W. No bites on that.

One of my friends took 3rd place and took the $25 prize!

    Cheers,

Sunday was a nice day in the Ozarks even if it did cloud up. If you have to work this week, call in sick and enjoy the peak colors down there. I went for about 120+ mile loop....too much was backtracking from dead ends.
First stop was Stegall Mountain fire lookout.
You park maybe 2/10's of a mile down the road and walk the rest of the way.
My GPS showed a route through Peck Ranch which I knew was a fantasy from previous experience.
Lots of traffic here trying to catch a glimpse of the Elk.....no Elk seen.
I did find this little spring.
So after numerous dead ends I go to a road that I know will take me to my next spot.
This spot is near Fremont. I'm looking down the old track bed of the Current River Railroad. there is a RR tie
    next to the glass bottle.
The next picture is just beyond there where you can see the old pilings from a creek crossing.
This is the same railroad that fed the logging industry in Grandin. Many of us ride what locals call "the tram road" but
in reality it was railroad and not a quickly built "tram road". Next stop was the old stack of the MIDCO smelter. I figured it was still posted NO Tresspassing but it was worth a chance.
Some old ruins near the smelter outside the posted sings.
Do a search on Midco and save me the trouble of plagarizing someone else's work :D
Or you can read a bit here.
    Midco
I stopped in Van Buren at Jolly Cone for abite to eat and then went to visit another fire tower I had been to years ago.
This is the view from Deer Run lookout tower.
Not real far from there is this cabin I found back in the 90's. I don't know any history behind it but still had the waypoint after all these years.
I hit some more gated roads until I found my way back to highway 106.

Generally cross at Ste Gen. or Chester. But 255 will work. We can meet 21& M. You have a route or just ride 21 south? Time? PM me if it will work.

I figured you might be riding the Indiana Hoosier Natl Forest Ride this weekend.
I wanted to go, but couldn't pull it off.

    See you Sunday
