Welcome Matt! Do a google search for SBR 2013 ride and snag the ride route, you'll see it will take you by lake of the ozarks and over early 1900 suspension "swinging" bridges! Ride them while we still have them...

    Have a good one!

Hey, Matt, if you're living in Kirksville, and you don't take your bike up to Putnam County, you're doing yourself a disservice. I spent some time bridgehunting up there earlier this year... lots of hills, twisty pavement, and plenty of old mud roads of variable quality.

I live 45 miles east of you; my idea of fun doesn't involve camping (roughing it is going to the Super 8 instead of the Drury) but it does involve riding the old roads whenever I can find them. Unfortunately, as a small business owner, I don't get a lot of time off, so I fit in my riding when I can.

I need a Bixby run as I haven't been there since last fall. Most of the guys I ride with did the SBR recently and they are currently doing the SLAP rally in Arkansas. The problem though is that I only know the main drags into the forest as I am -gps so I have no tracks, etc. This will be corrected on Father's Day!

And as somebody mentioned the granddaddy of Swinging Bridges is just a few miles from Bagnell Dam. If you come down and want a guide I might be able to go.

Well since I am the only one that didn't go to SLAP, I guess I'll check out the pirates tearing up their bike down at Shady Jacks, (Burnout on Broadway). Should be interesting, unless somebody pipes up with a better idea before 10:40 am.

    Hey guys,
Received an email from an inmate letting me know that I wasn't the only rider in Missouri so I thought that I would post an intro here. I'm currently living outside of Ft Leonard Wood and have really been enjoying the riding in central MO.

My current main rides are an '07 HD Street Bob and an '05 GSXR 600. I have a couple of bikes in pieces and pretend I have my own reality TV Chopper building show while I weld, grind, weld, and then grind some more on them. I probably shouldn't give up my day job so quick.

If anyone wants to ride give me a shout and if the Army doesn't have me off doing training or dumb stuff I'll be up for it.

I've had this waypoint in my gps for a lot of years "BallMill"--------------went by it a jillion times but never hiked the 1/2 mile back to it.
I was visiting my friend Steve Robertson and he asks me if I've ever been there---and after he told me about it I had to see it and off we went.

Here's what it looks like on mapsource------and you can see it's about 2 miles South of the tiny town of Lithium, MO where there is a neat spring by the way.
You can see the waypoint I made where you need to park.

Here is the coordinates of the small parking area-------it's a no-brainer to find your way hiking back to the hole.
    N37° 48.190'
    W89° 53.129'

Just recently I've started packing shoes for hiking ---------and we went for a hike---and here is Steve starting down the trail.
Him and his wife have both been there-----and this is really an interesting an extremely unusual thing of nature.
I've never heard of anything like what I was about to see.

The ticks and chiggers are out----------and I brought an imbedded tick home with me.

We are just downstream of the big hole in the ground in this picture.

So we walk up to it------------I brought my hiking shoes------just didn't put them on . Probably a good thing as I would have had more chiggers and tics.

We came upon a 25 foot hole in the ground with a 70 ft. vertical cliff right above it.

So here is what happens when it rains a lot.
Now this is amazing--------water that pours into sink holes in the surrounding area finally starts shooting up out of this hole with quite a bit of pressure and shoots up out of the hole---with enough force is actually picks up those rocks you see and rolls them around like in a washing machine--------which makes a rumbling noise that can be heard quite a ways away we were told.
The rocks tumble and tumble and some of them are tumbled together for so long that become round and smooth.

    I just found this amazing.

The excess water then runs down this creek and becomes a very fast flowing creek.

On the way back to Steve's we found this.
And after getting to Steve's I find out he plays guitar and we play guitars till almost midnight.

And any Missouri ADV rider worth his salt knows where this is :deal
Me and Sieg were going to ride thru here not long ago but figured it was under water-----------or washed out.

Got home and JoJo found that "Little Dog" had invaded my little piece of desert heaven.
It was a good 2 days of riding.
