    1) Do you want to do it at the MTRA club grounds near Bixby? Yes
    2) How much would you pay for this training? Couple hundred bucks
    3) How long, 1 day or 2? Either is fine
    4) When? Spring 2018
    5) Interested in helping? Probably not this time
    6) Camping on site or motel? Camping
    7) Meals supplied? I'd like it but not essential
    8) Any other concerns? Depending on how many come you might want multiple skill level groups and instructors

I think that is something we should consider as well. We can run some of the same drills just the degree of difficulty would be different. Like crossing debri, they could range from 4" x 4" for novice lever to 12" phone poles for the next level. I am sure we can do the same for sand riding, rocks and even basic skills like balance drills and turning drills.

Below is some information about an ADV training class' put on by Bill Conger that has been held in SE Kansas. We have had people come from as far away as Texas and Minnesota to attend. The class was also written up in RoadRunner Magazine.
    • Bill was the former chief motorcycle instructor at the BMW Performance Center. He created the grounds and structured the class for BMW.
    • Bill is also a Dakar racer and it racing in the upcoming Dakar. https://bc2dakar.com/
    • Liz Allen, another former BMW instructor, was an additional instructor
    • After leaving the Performance Center he gave classes in different areas of the country, working through BMW dealerships.
    • In Missouri he went through Engle Motor's in Kansas City and held the classes property of mine in SW Kansas.
    • The class was two days
    • The class size was limited to 12 people (2 instructors)
    • Cost was $725, $695 if paid in advance
We are planning on having a class or two in the spring of 2018 and because of demand, an advanced class for those that have taken a class from him before.

Here is a summary of the class from 2015:

Last years program was a huge sucess, we are headed back to Kansas! BC Moto Adventures Off Road Foundations Level 1 class is coming to the Kansas City region on May 16 and 17, 2015. This two day class is being held on a private ranch a short drive from KC, this venue has varying terrain to challenge riders as they learn what they and their dual sport bike are capable of!

Riding your own dual sport motorcycle, the two-day program is designed to maximize every rider's ability on dirt, gravel or other non-paved surfaces. BC Moto’s Bill Conger, a certified instructor, graduated from the BMW Instructor Academy in 2006 and entrant in the 2012 Dakar Rally will be the lead instructor for this event. In addition to learning from one of the best, you will also get the chance to hear about what it takes to prepare for and ride in the world's most infamous rally. Accompanying Bill is instructor Elizabeth Allen, a 2012 BMW Instructor Academy graduate, life long rider and off road racer.

Each day of the school will consist of approximately six hours of riding time and two hours of classroom instruction. To maximize learning and ride time most “classroom” sessions are held trailside. Riding includes drills on dirt, gravel and grass with excursions around the “Ranch” and the surrounding area.

In this course, we will start with basic items such as proper riding position, balance, clutch and throttle control working through a progression of skills exercises to help you become more confident on your bike on different surfaces. We will cover challenging situations such as how to climb and descend steep hills, riding over obstacles, and recovery techniques for large bikes. This class will give you the fundamental skills to build your confidence and allow you to better enjoy your riding whether it’s a day’s jaunt down an old dirt road or a journey around the world.

Riders also will be able to put their newfound skills to use on short dual sport rides with the instructors. Riders are required to wear FULL protective gear including helmet, gloves, a jacket or similar with elbow, back and shoulder protection, knee protection and boots that protect the ankle and shin. Knobby tires are highly recommended. Riders should be proficient in the operation of a motorcycle.

In order to provide a personalized level of attention, class size is limited. Take advantage of this unique opportunity and reserve your spot early as our previous events have sold out.

    Did I miss anyone?

Ok, looks like several interested riders. I will move forward and contact a trainer, as it looks like it would be worth his while.

I think he planned to charge $200 for 2 days, including some meals and the camping. He would pay the MTRA from that. (We talked about $20 bucks per rider for 4 nights camping, 2 days use of the facility, we're not getting rich, we're here to promote motorcyclist.)

So that looks in the price range of those responding. I think he wants to supply meals, so he can maximize your training time, over people leaving or making their own at camp. It would probably be subs, chips and a drink from Bixby, preordered and delivered at noon.

Any brand m/c and size, but you'll get more out it on a big bike.

When I asked about "helping", I meant before and after, not the actual training. We are a volunteer outfit, bunch of hard workers, same ones at all the events. (Keith1212 is one of them.) They get burned out! They're dirt bikers, I'm one of only ones that even owns and ADV bike. We won't stand to make any money by the time we figure cost. Fuel, time on tractors, mowers, saws, weed whackers, johns, showers, well, insurance............... So, no profit and an out of their interest type event, I don't see the core members helping much. Linda and I will. But if some of the participants don't help I can bet the event won't happen, that's the way it works. (unless we charge a lot more money) But it looks like we have some volunteers so I'll move forward.

Should we start a thread and not hijack this one?

And if someone wants to take the lead or do it somewhere else. Have at it I have enough to do without this. :deal

I’d be interested in a riding class. I’d be on a Tiger 800 Roadie.

Price looks perfect, count me in for helping set up Friday and potentially tearing down Sunday depending on finish time! The sooner we get a date the better so I can make sure to take off work.

Re: any brand/size bike... so you're saying I'd get more out of it on the SV1000 than on the WR250? :lol3

I am thinking skid plate will be a must for X-Mas and I best start getting in shape. The sooner I know the sooner I can get scheduled off work and of course tell the wife. If my son purchases a KLR he would probably interested also.

Stay tuned! I'm in contact with a trainer and the rest of the board of the MTRA. So far no negatives. Him and us (MTRA) need to agree on a date, then the ball is in his court. I'll put you guys and gal in contact with him at that point. As far as the $$ and training and all that, you will deal directly with him. I have no stake in this. I will merely coordinate between him and the MTRA, as for what is expected from the MTRA.
    Two day class.
He likes to keep the class to 10. or so.
The date will NOT be April 29 or June 2 or 3 or Easter or the third weekend of any month.
