    A few of us Northstars & friends are heading to the Mojave desert to camp & ride from Dec.27 to Jan. 2nd. We will be camping just south of the Water Tank #3 hill, east of Cal.City. Camping & riding info can be found here.

    Most of our group rides are technical and require a well-prepped dirtbike with a 100-mile fuel range & an intermediate-skilled rider. There are plenty of 2-track & dirt/sand roads in these areas that newbies or big-bikes will find fun also, so bring your riding partner & GPS with you too.

    It will be COLD at night, so bring more firewood or contribute to the firewood fund. I'm looking forward to my new Beta 520RS's first desert ride! Come join us for some great riding, camping, & New Year's Eve!!! :clap

    Yes, you are close enough for a day ride from home. Get to our camp ~9AM in the mornings to see who is going where that day.

    From Cal.City, we plan a ride each day into one or more of the nearby mountain ranges or riding areas; Jawbone Canyon, the Piutes, Dove Springs, the El Paso Mtns, the Rand Mtns, and the Fremont Mtns. And some of the local sights; Randsburg, the Husky Moto Memorial, Burro Schmidt Tunnel & Walsh Cabin in the El Pasos, McIvers Cabin above Dove Springs, the Pinnacles, and a few Petroglyph sites.

    We plan to Ken! Mark your calendar & bring some friends for our annual Spring Mojave Madness Ride on March 15-19.

    Maybe you just need a vacation?

    Yes, I'm really looking forward to riding the Beta in the desert. It handles better & steers more precisely than any motorcycle I've ridden. I've not felt the need for a steering damper yet. The deep desert sand might change my mind though. It was the availability of the 3.8-gal. tank this summer that clinched it for me. Then riding it on rocky Sierra singletrack & jeeps trails this summer. Its MAGIC! :wink:

    Airon, who you & I rode with last December, will be riding also. Just not hear which days yet.

    At our Mojave ride link, you will find a GPX file with many waypoints & tracks. Look at the dark green tracks (mostly easy, some sandy washes, etc...). Bring a riding buddy & your GPS!

    I'm looking forward to riding with you again. Has anyone heard from Anders yet?

    If you don't have a riding buddy to bring with you ... then speak up in this thread about what you ride, dirt experience level, and which days you plan to attend. Hopefully others with similar interest & skills will speak up also. That usually works pretty good.

    Hi Brett! Cool to hear you are interested. The two more technical rides we do are north in the El Paso Mtns and east in the Fremont Mtns. Both have fun singletrack with technical sections. Have you ridden any of these trails? These are not as technical as say a 950 on the Rubicon or your recent 5 Miles of Hell, but they are the most fun these areas have to offer.

    If you can only ride one day, then we should plan where on which days for the intermediate group. Here's a tentative plan;

    Wednesday, Dec.28 - Probably a clear-the-cobwebs ride through the Rand Mtns to Randsburg for lunch and back.

    Thursday, Dec.29th - Singletrack in the Fremont Mtns, to the Husky Moto Memorial, & back.

    Friday, Dec.30th - El Paso Mtns, Burro Schmidt Tunnel, Walsh Cabin, singletrack & hillclimbs.

    Saturday and/or Sunday, we may truck the bikes to & stage in Dove Springs. Nice rides into the mtns to the northwest & up to McIver Cabin, snow permitting. Also, east from DS into the western El Pasos, nightmare gulch, BS Tunnel & back.

    We have also talked about maybe trucking the bikes down to Johnson Valley for a day ride. The trails down there in your videos look fun, and I have yet to ride there.

    I'm looking forward to some GREAT desert riding in just 2 more weeks! :clap

    Damn I was just going to go sign up for the Ocotillo Wells ride the same week, also posted here on ADV. But then I noticed this ride and it looks like it might be even more fun. Problem is I have very little money and only two weeks to plan - eek. :eek1

    I think I'm going to try and go for this ride instead of Ocotillo Wells. I will post more details/questions and whatever shortly.

    Noooooo, lol. I really would like to join in on the technical rides and get to see those awesome Betas at work! But I can only be there 27 and 28 :( You guys are riding on the 27th as well right? My DR200 with stock gearing does have trouble on BIG, LONG, hills, because first gear is too slow and second gear just bogs down. But I've done a fair bit of pretty gnarly technical stuff on it. Lots of fun local hill climbs where I live. And I recently did the John Bull Trail in Big Bear on my 200. That trail seems to be (based on pics I've seen) pretty similar to the Rubicon trail - insanely fun! Here's a couple little clips of typical sections of John Bull Trail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOzBqdeEYwE&feature=related ;
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNh_S-b8qzk&feature=fvwrel . Anyways...if all the technical riding is going to be on the days I can't be there, then I might switch back to the Ocotillo Wells ride instead. Would prefer to be able to do some nice technical stuff on this ride though.
