Ain't goin to Ludlow...
I guess I am out.
I got family vacation plans that weekend and into turkey day week.
Have fun boys!!
Ride is still on . A few more details tomorrow.
Heres a teaser. MNP has over 1200 miles of roads, mostly dirt.
Also I have a Mojave Road 4 wheel drive trip in the planning stages for after New Years some time. Starting where Mojave Road intersects Hwy 95 south of Searchlight Nevada. Heading west, spending 3-4 days messing around and camping. Finishing up in Yermo and I-15. Jeeps and trucks welcome. Will have a date by Christmas.
OK boys, these are the last details on the ride.
I'm driving out Thursday Nov21, arriving mid morning setting up camp adjacent to the Mojave Road, a few miles west of Cima Rd., camp elevation around 4000'. Mojave Road crosses Cima rd. 28 miles south of Interstate 15.
Trucking in and tent camping. No RV access to my campsite.
Riding a bit Thursday with no specific plan but will return to camp by 4:00 pm to get situated before dark.
Friday and Saturday are my planned long ride days, no more than 150 miles each day.
I'll be packing up and heading home Sunday 11/24 after breakfast.
In no particular order some areas I plan to visit:
Mid Hills and Hole in the Wall campgrounds
Aiken Mine Road
Death Valley Mine
I would like to return to camp at least an hour before dark each night. I have race quality LED lighting on my EXC so if i get caught on the trail after dark I'm still good.
I enjoy challenging riding, so deep sand and any nasty rocky roads are not a concern for me. Obviously the riding will be mostly easy because of the location but I like to seek out the most fun easy routes.
Big bikes can traverse anything in MNP but you have to be ready for challenges.
Thats it! If you have questions please ask. Whos in?
Sounds good - I have work scheduled in Vegas and Laughlin early that week - so I should be able to join you Thursday Evening. Bringing the 450 and it's set up for Baja - so distance is not an issue.
Here is a link to a good website showing the camping spot and others
Thanks Tim! Glad you're going to try to make it. Your work location that week will make it easier than bombing up there from Temecula.
Only have one other commited guy ,one of my oldest racing and trail ride buddies and good friend. Maybe one of his sons too. Wish my youngest son could go but no street legal bike for him.
Just in case any of you fucks get nervous about me and my old race buddy, he has five grandkids and i have two...
The older I get .........the faster I was.
Not worried...BigTodd said you were good to ride with. Sounds like the way we ride. Fast and hard and get back to camp for a beer.
Old guys rule.
EDIT: I may still need to sit out. I understand I must have a torn rotator cuff. Gotta be off the bikes for at least a month, see if it gets better. I have a doctor appt. next week for if it doesn't feel a lot better. Otherwise I'm sure they'll have to re-attach tendons. Either way I'm F'd.
I've had two rotator cuff surgeries. not fun. Should have had a third, had another mishap that caused another tear,as well as a detached Bicep tendon. Fuck it I said, and let em heal. Took about a year and i was riding the whole time :eek1.
Moving camp location to Cima Dome area. Much better scenery, mo easier to get to, 10 miles from I-15 instead of 35.
More detail on this later.
There are a couple sites that should work for a small group around a place marked Sunrise Rock on some maps. This one is right off Cima Rd : N35 18.914 W115 33.028
There are a few more back along that dirt road. This is the area where I took the first video.
Thanks Randy, Idealy I'll find a spot with some nice rock formations to shield from any strong westerly winds . Never know about Mojave Desert weather,I 've had 80 degree and 40 degree daytime temps at my house around Thanksgiving.
Camped the area many, many years ago in my old IH Scout. Was there weekend before thanksgiving, woke up to two inches of snow. Stayed at Mid Hills. Probably 20+ years ago.
Would like to get out and see Michel Caverns., trying to decide that area or Panamint/Mazourka and Papoose Flats the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Hope you take a lot of pics!
FYI, Mitchell Caverns and the state park have been closed for some time now. Legacy of budget cuts a few years ago.
Hate to go out there and find that out.
Glenn, Im busy for you moto ride due to ribboning the LaB2V. But....Should have my XJ done for your after new years trip. Did Harry do the National Enduro? Going to spend more time exploring in 2014 and less time racing, getting the boy set with a dual sport ride also.
ps- Elmgren is back in Cali, with his bike, snow birding in La Quinta
Hi Andrew! Good to hear from you. XJ sounds fun! We'll do it.
Hit me up to do some desert exploring any time. I can ride most fridays or saturdays.
Harry is riding the West Chec enduro series. He's leading the 250 A class with one round to go up in Stonyford Ca. on 11/9. No national enduros yet but we will be going to the national in the mountains near Grand Junction Co. next August.
With some photos..
We can't get out until the 23rd or so. Buddies are interested in that area, or DV.
Hate to do it but I have to bail on the trip for that weekend. Going to ride close to home instead and save some cash for some work at my house.
I live in the desert so if anyone wants to do some local day rides in my area let me know, i have lots of great stuff to ride from easy to gnarly. I'm still off work from 21st to 24th.
