    Hi guys,
A friend and myself wish to have a small trip from Montpellier, South of France to Barcelona.
We do not want to take motorway (obvious) but be do neither want to take "adv rider" roads as our beloved will be on the saddle too.
So we thought to go from Narbonne to Andorra to Seu d'Urgel to Barcelona.

Do you have some hints on which road we must take absolutly, which we must to avoid at all costs, place to stop, even place to sleep.

Bikes involved are a vstrom 650 and a R1150R (yes, sorry, R and not GS)

    Any suggestions are welcome !

    Thanks.
    Thierry.

Looking on the map, we saw a possible interesting route :

    FRANCE
    Narbonne
    Mouthoumet
    Quillan
    Ax les thermes
    ANDORRA
    Andorra la vella
    ESPAÑA
    La Seu d'Urgell
going through la reserva national de Cadi
    Tuixén
    Solsona
    Manresa
    (Montserrat)
    Barcelona

We have not yet thought of the retuen route.

So, for those who knows this area, is it a good route ? Do we miss something worth a halt ?

    Suggestions are more than welcomed.

    cheers.
    Thierry.

Um for weather try www.meteocat.com. Not quite as good as the French equivalent, but still.

Possu, you´ll see that the colour of the rugby jersey that the nice man in my avatar is wearing is red. We dont get rejected due to 100% success rate ex factory! :lol3

Sounds like a great trip. I drove through from Barcelona to Perpignon - then Montpellier, went up to Andor, saw some snowy peaks, etc. Beautiful country. I recall Tolouse being a real fun place too.

OK the route you have chosen is good. I hope on the French side you are going to get some of Le Gorges in (St Georges for example?).

The route down is also a good one.

Only comment is that unless you ar going shopping I would forget Andorra (and even then its no barain anymore). Nice countryside, good offf road, otherwise its crap roads, crap food and ugly as hell. You´ll probably get stopped by the Guardia Civil entering Spain. I wouldn´t bother.

Instead take the Puymorens down to Puigcerda and then the N260 to Seu. If you have time carry on to Sort (means Luck in Catalan and people come form all over Spain to buy lottery tickets there). That road is a cracker and is as is the continuation of the N260 to Tremp. I did it recently with Guzy and Jackhole from advrider. A Tremp you could take a left on thec1412 to Isona, then the L511 back to the C14 and the Cadì natural park.

Going back take the C17 towards Vic and then at Ribes de Freser the N152 (la collada de toses) great road. Just after Ribes, if hungry turn right up to Ventola there is one bar, if its the weekend it´ll be full of bikers they do a great breakfast of dried meats (with wine of course). Then you have an easy trip back. Also around Les Angles/mont louis there are lots of small roads that are great.

Alternatively take the road to Vic as before at Granollers take the C251 towards St Celoni and at Sta maria de Palautordera turn right onto the BV5301 and fo the Montseny, another park and another great road. This road takes you back to the very same C17 heading to Vic.

If you fancy a bit of "surf n turf" take the NII out of Barcelona up through the Maresme towatrds the costa brava. The road form Lloret de Mar to Sant Feliu de Guixols is spectacular. Make sure you have spare bulbs and all your documentation. Its one of the roads, where the police stop you for suspicion of posession of a motorcycle (actually largely justified by the poor, out of control, riding of some power rangers). From there you could head up to Sant Hilari Sacalm and then either head back to Vic (famous for its dried sausage) via Sant Sadurni d´Osormort or head up to Olot and do the Volcanic park and then onto Ribes de Freser again or up to Camprodon and into France at Prats de Mollo.

I´ll pm you with my mobile no as well.

    Cheers

    T

So that's it, we did it.
From September 30th to October 3rd.
A little bit shorter than expected loop around the pyrénées through Andorre.
Shorter because we went to Moustiers Sainte Marie the previous week end and I was a little bit wrong about the roads.... and we spent around 7-8 hours on the bike under a heavy rain. My beloved said : "No More !".

So no more Barcelona, just La Seu d'Urgell towards Cadaquès.
We got a wonderful weather, some outstanding lanscapes and a good ride.
I'll try to post some pictures (if I'm able to :cob )

Let's start we the 2 beasts awaiting for us (in the back, taking breakfast, at Narbonne)
vstrom DL650 on the left. R1150R on the right.
From Narbonne to Andorra la Vella
We are in Pays Cathare where there are a lot of castles or rumbles of castles.

    Mountains everywhere. Landscape's becoming great.

Weather is with us. Amazing skies.

Either Queribus or Peyrepertuse castle, I don't remember.

Crossing the Gorges de Galamus. The amazing here is I'm suffering from vertigo. If I look cool, I'm not ! ;o)

Gorges de Galamus. Kind of small Gorges Du Verdon. But for me a little bit better as we are here really in the Gorge, deep in it.

Girls resting and enjoying the panorama.

There are some houses hanged on the rock. Amazing. An a nightmare when you decide to go shopping.

On the other side of the Gorges, luxuriant green valley.

Later, at Belcaire, on the road to Ax les thermes, on the plateau de sault. It's getting cold and we'll soon have to pass some "Cols" to Andorra.

At the end of the plateau, Ax Les Thermes.

No photos of Andorra..... not really interesting here.

So let's go directly to the road from La Seu d'Urgell to Cadaquès.

Small stop after La Seu d'Urgell, mainly to get rid of the sunglasses as we will pass a lot of tunnels.

    [IMG] [IMG]
I took some "stylish" pictures of our beasts

    Tunnels, tunnels....

    Small ancient castles and...
    Ugly modern ones.... Sad.

Here, we got lost. The road became narrow and awesome. The vstrom driver and I were happy...

And we were hungry and.... we found a amazing little restaurant in this pueblo (La Nou, north of berga).

    Still climbing to....
A dead end ! Or at least for us.... oops, for me ! The road became impossible for my R1150R... shame. the vstrom was evry keen to go.... ;)
I'll be happy if guys in the area could be able to tell me where this road goes.... Spanish Bob, may be ?

My personal photograph playing with the camera....

A small stop on the B402 towards Ripoll. The vstrom driver is a real pilot. Very smooth driver in the curves. 3rd gear, barely touching the brakes. Not like me being 2nd gear/3rd gear/2nd between the curves and braking nearly stopping before the curve... pity. But my beloved is a little bit afraid if the bike bend too much. Anyway, during the pause, the crazy vistromer gave us a good laugh !

This mountain will be difficult to climb to....
