Just wanted to let some of our friends know we can be followed as we ride from Bethany Beach, Deleware to Port Orford, Oregon via the TAT.

Of course the trail starts in Tennesee but we decided to go coast to coast.

I haven't decided whether we're going to do a real time ride report but we'll
    have the SPOT tracking us.

    Here's the link.

We're taking the red eye out of Oakland tonight to Pittsburgh where are bikes are waiting.
Actually just outside of Pittsburgh in Butler, PA. at a friend of mines home.

We're planning to leave PA Monday or Tuesday for DL, dip our toes in the Atlantic
and head west. Four to five weeks is our planned travel time, we'll see.

Here's a pic of the bikes just before they were shipped.

As you can see we packed pretty light. We plan on a camp/motel ratio of 2/1.
Of course that depends on weather and where we are. No hard and fast rules.

Hopefully we'll meet some other riders along the way and share some adventures and will try to get some pictures up once we get underway.

    Looking forward to following along.
SPOT link does not work for me but maybe it's because you have not started the trip yet. It tells me...

We arrived in Pittsburgh this morning and were picked up by my buddy Russ
and his girlfriend Sue. We're staying at his house until Monday or Tuesday
when we'll head out to Bethany Beach. Beautiful spread by the way just outside
    Pittsburgh.

The bikes were shipped here a few weeks ago and we had our first interesting minor mishap. During shipping the driver called and said my Dakar had a leak.
She said it was minor but didn't know what kind of leak it was, she thought maybe coolant. I asked if it was blue, no was the answer maybe it's hydraulic
fluid she said. I told her just deliver it and I'll check when I get there.

So today we check over the bike and it's oil. The skid is full of it and some down the left side of the engine. So I spray it down with simple green get it a clean
and start it up to find the leak. After letting it cool down there's no leak anywhere.

I look around a little more and see some oil at the bottom of the plenum.
So I remove the body work to access the plenum and gee, there's oil dripping
from the bottom of the air filter. Okay I pull the air filter and find over a cup of oil in the bottom of the plenum.

Idiots must has tipped it over and it stayed there for a while. Oil came through the breather hose and filled the plenum. Luckily the filter and the plenum just needed a good cleaning and no more leak.

It's funny they never mentioned the bike falling over. Thank goodness I can't find any other damage. I think the shippers are going to get an interesting email.

Oh, and the spot tracking will start Monday or Tuesday when we get underway.

    That's it for now.

They invited me to dinner with them and over dinner I tell them a friend of mine just moved out there from Michigan. His name is Daniel (Xdbx on Advrider) and they know him.Man, its a small world !!!
Anyway, they are doing good, and they are great guys.

    Hey everybody,

Just a quick update, we will do a full ride report later, but we'll try to keep you going with some recent events.

So far, we have been to the flight 93 memorial and Gettysburg, through a massive thunder and hail storm with flooded freeways and scared drivers, wet brick roads and giant lawns on every property.

Dipped our feet in the Atlantic Ocean in Delaware, went across the bridge in Chesapeake Bay, through Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and into Tennessee.

Met Gas Guy ( another ADVer) in Virginia, got speeding ticket(s) in a small town in W. Virginia and even took pictures with the friendly cops.

    We will post pictures later.

Currently we are 12 miles from the TAT trail head and will be heading out first thing tomorrow morning.

Don't know when we will be posting next as we are using the hotel computer.

So until next time.......let the adventure continue.....

We started the official trail today. About 8 miles in one of the infamous water crossings got Pete. Filled the exhaust, airbox and crankcase up with water.

I rode back into town to get fresh oil, got it changed and running again. Total time about an hour and a half.

Back on the trail, met some kids riding the trail too. Just graduated from Virginia tech and heading all the way to California.. They gave me a chip for my GPS with complete tracks to the end of the trail. I had a little problem with my routing, problem now solved.

Then later in the ride I was going around an uphill hairpin, on pavement, hit some heavy oil and spun. No damage to me or the bike, I didn't even go down myself. Just left standing there. You'll all be glad to know one of the kids got the spin on a GoPro, he might even be posting it tonight.

Oh, and we're in Monteagle, TN tonight. that's it for now.
