I agree , a harsh penalty ,but this would've been know at the beginning of the race as the team director would have recieved an ammendment and would had to have signed for it. his responsibilty to pass on the info to the guy with no ears and all right hand. the best team won.
a total of 3 riders were actually DQ'd for the pit stop window thing. Crazy stuff.. but this will probably improve their basic math skills!
HRC really tripped over their dicks this weekend; Pedrosa's engine mount falling out, dramatically, and Marquez's team being unable to count to 10. And they are headed to their home circuit. Interesting times. I bet someone will be on the receiving end of the wrath of Nakamoto-san.
Cue Garry McCoy.
Remember him, he used to slide it all day long and still run softer compound (or softest excluding qualifier) than any other rider. Others suffered with harder compounds. Theory was that when McCoy's rear tire was sliding, only the top part of the rubber layer got hot, not the carcass, which kept colder. This kept the tire intact as there was not that much stress to it. Others riding conventionally caused too much stress (equals heat) to carcass and the tire started acting loose, which caused more heat and more issues. Like a vicious cycle.
Marquez had a "moment" just before he was supposed to pit. That probably unsettled him enough to forget pitting.
Yup, somewhere Garry is reading all of the hoopla about tires laughing.
That may have been it. His foot even came of the peg if I recall correctly.
Lorenzo's pace was also very strong from the beginning. Who needs energy drinks? 'Seagull, gives you wings.'
Yeah, sorry guys, but he has a lap timer and counter on his dash. Rider is responsible for riding the bike, and counting to 10. Just admit that it is a dumb mistake that is incredibly easy to make when you're caught up in the moment. Nothing more or less than that.
I'm speechless.. :huh
"'The team made a mistake, understanding [Marquez] was able to complete ten laps and come back in before completing lap eleven, and the 'box' instruction on his pit board was therefore one lap late.
Not an unreasonable interpretation of the rules. In hindsight they should have checked...
And remember they changed the # of laps again after warm-up.
But still beyond me, that the TEAM could actually screw up something so basic. The rider, in the heat of the race, is much more understandable.
Boy are the pitchforks out on all of the racing sites
The comments thread on MM is approaching Jo Momma levels of angst.
Didn't see the exact wording of the changed rules. But I sure hope there is no room to argue there -- three teams/riders, including the championship leader, got it wrong.
MM was black flagged because it was too dangerous to go 11 laps on that tire, yet Dorna didn't find it dangerous to have the pit lane exit like that. Go figure.
+1 to this. The shots of Mccoy are great back in the day. Attach the throttle hand to the rear tire without all the electrons and maybe it wouldn't have been an issue.
maybe Dorna should have done that and THEN we would have seen some interesting racing I reckon.
Will Dorna give themselves penalty points?
All I have read from BS and Dorna is stuff congratulating themselves for producing an exciting race.
A cupla things....MM rode past his 'in' board twice.....#26 was penalised for speeding into, and crossing 'the line' on pit lane exit. Hence this on the official timing sheets. So that would make #46 2nd. Errrrr right? Eeeeerrrrrrrrrr...
Got a few friends in race control who were there when Suppo came in to argue MM's case that because his pit box was before the timing/start/finish line, he hadn't actually gone into the next lap.... ( and he WAS NOT HAPPY..)
Might mention that there was NO RIDER BRIEFING concerning all this crap. Just a piece of paper delivered to each garage, written in lawyer speak. So no opportunity to ask questions. (Not too hard to organize?? Like we do it at club level, with a shit load more riders..)
This could have been an awesome race over full distance.........Bridgestone.
