I saw it on MotoGP and it looked just like a long engine mount bolt. But I'm thinking to myself- "no way, can't be". :eek1

Guess those wrenches are human too.

I've sometimes wondered about assembly when I see bare frames, engines and all the components then see a complete race bike in a relatively short time. I know that most of these people can probably assemble a bike in their sleep, but it still amazes me.

Of course it looks like someone WAS asleep when they mounted DP's engine....

Tires are going to play a big role in the races. FP 4 should be interesting to see who comes up with usable setups for the hard Bridgestone rears.

    Moto 2 looks even more dicey/crucial. :eek1

FP3 lap analysis suggests Rossi is looking very good on the hard tyre, assuming that's what he was using on his last run.

As are the Spanish trio, of course. Lorenzo might have been fifth on ultimate pace but for consistency he was living up to Bootlace's trackside evaluation.

Smith quicker than Crutchlow. Who'd a thought it?

And another off for Marquez, about 300 meters around from where he fell yesterday, and this time under brakes. Wonder whether that will mess with his head a bit for the race.

A dnf with Lorenzo winning would cut Marquez's lead to 18 points with two rounds remaining.

Consecutive third places from there would not guarantee him the title if Lorenzo took two more wins.

Of course, given his current form, it will probably just mean he knows precisely where the edge is at two of the trickier parts of the track.

I don't get it. Stoner's a two-time MotoGP champion and a quitter. How does that get you into the MotoGP Legends?

He can surely ride the wheels off a bike, but he didn't stick around long enough in my opinion. In my opinion. Prolly doesn't matter to most.

    SPORTING REGULATIONS
    Effective immediately:
Currently the Race Direction is the only body competent to change the length of a race. This competence has been extended to authorise Race Direction to be able to change the length of a race outside of the minimum and maximum lengths defined elsewhere in the regulations.

    TECHNICAL REGULATIONS
    Effective immediately:
There have been recent situations in which teams and riders have ignored the recommendations of the official tyre suppliers on issues such as tyre pressures. It is suspected that this has led to cases of abnormal degradation of tyres affecting the safety of the riders.
A new regulation has been approved which will compel teams and riders to use the tyres according to the parameters agreed by the Technical Director and the organisers in consultation with the official tyre suppliers.
The full text of the regulations may be viewed here.

Statement on reduction in Moto2 race distance at Phillip Island given tyre concerns.
'Following a formal request from the Official tyre supplier for the Moto2™ class, Race Direction has taken the decision to adjust the race length for the Moto2 class for the Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, 2013, according to Article 1.17.2 of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations.

The decision was taken in consultation with the Official Moto2 tyre supplier in the interests of rider safety.

The full race distance will be 13 laps, full Championship points will be awarded.

Teams are also reminded of the update to Article 2.5.4.9 of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations. Tyres must be used within the parameters as advised by the Official tyre supplier and approved by the Technical Director. Usage parameters include tyre pressure and temperature.'

Nasty looking highside from Redding into the final turn, Moto2 qualifying. Looked as though he may have hurt a wrist or finger trying to save it. Otherwise seems okay.

    Kallio and Corteze down also.

What a clusterfuck quali for Moto2.
Nasty crashes. Can't believe they allow tire barriers.
They should cancel the race if the tires are that bad.
