So, you expect them to make an entirely new, safe tire overnight and then get it shipped over to the teams?

Corporate ass covering would be having a rider die/get hurt due to a tire failure and Bridgestone/Dunlop deny having known about any potential problems.

Having shortened/modified races aren't ideal but it's better than no race or having a high potential for someone to get seriously hurt.

    That's one take on this.

Another is that they decided it was better to not spend the money on testing, and just guess at what they needed.

Which appears to have worked out nicely.

Good on 'em for doing the safe thing. No one wants to see a rider hurt because of a tire failure. It was probably tempting to keep quiet and hope for the best. Took some courage to speak up.

Piss on 'em for not doing the testing they needed to do. Sounds like both the single tire suppliers got complacent, not to mention the safety committee at Dorna.

Beautiful track, perfect weather, enthusiastic crowd and then the train jumps the tracks.

Bridgestone wins the honorable dumb ass award.

As it's deemed to dangerous to run a full length race, why can't they run a reduced length race or take a leaf out of the superbike boys book & have 2 races with 1/2 points for each leg? Surely that's safer than having them all turn up in pit lane at the same time?

They had all these as options, and they decided to do 26 laps, but with a mandatory change of bike.

Because this is MotoGP. They don't take suggestions from such a lowly race series. They're GP damnit! :rolleyes And I believe they have rules against races being split like that. Bad for TV.

But if it were to rain......? ( Unlikely, thank god! Or someone,)

Talking to Dovi last night, and he says that with TC in full race mode his tyre is only good for 16 laps max.

Just talking to Pete, Clerk of Course, and he'll be coming along soon to give us the full story on what's actually happening today. He said its changed 3 times since we were given the story last night.....:norton

Like who knows what's going on?

The whole debacle is inexcusable. We've had WSBK here back in February, and OZ supers as well. It's bullshit. But hey, it's gunna be interesting:lol3

So how short would each race have to be in order to fit two warmup laps, two starts, two races, one dummy grid and, one sighting lap into the allotted 1 hour tv schedule for those channels around the world that broadcast live? maybe 6 or 7 laps? Or they could just do two 14 lap races and then cut away from the program right as the lights are turning green for the 2nd race. Can't imagine any of the mouth breathers around here without the motogp subscription bitching about that.

I get the feeling Dorna was aching for a flag to flag race (almost always interesting) and this was their excuse.

Plus it neatly fits into the schedule.

I am not a fan of scripted drama (as this surely is), but it will be interesting to see unfold.

Looking forward to the low down, BOOT-y.

I prefer it to unscripted drama in the form of a blowout.

I heard an interview with Bautista that said that the soft compund worked good with his bike for almost 22 laps. Problem arised when they used hard and super-hard compound, that tend to slip more during accelerations, overheat and consume sooner.
Also Dovizioso said that there is a phenomenon of "blistering" after a certain number of laps that they don't know how to deal with (basically confirming what Bootlace already wrote).

Well we've had our briefing, the track has been modified in regards to pit entry and exit....but as for the details.....? It seems like they're making it up on the run. It's a fiasco!! (With Spanish/Italian accent:lol3)

Keeping track with the blue flag is gunna be interesting.
