    lets get started. shall we?

    SHALL WE?

note on this model "upside down" the head fins are somewhat of a radial layout. the valve configuration was different on the 1936 hence the "upside down" term.

most of the Indian/Ace 4 cylinders had a manifold with a carb hanging on the rear of it which fed all 4 cylinders. not sure how efficient that was but it worked for them.

this one has the carb on the middle on the bottom of the manifold.

so much for K&N air filters.

getting in close for all the nooks and cranies was hard on this one as it's up on a platform as part of the timeline. took this one with the mighty Nikon and the 17-35 wide angle.

hail to the chief. wait- thats not a chief. well one of them is anyway.

if'n you were sitting on that 1936 Indian-this is what you'd be looking at.

welcome to the Indian room, and this is only what you'd see looking to the right. . :y0!

ok. Suchers book states that Indian attempted to breathe more fire into the 1936 four cylinder as it had been basically unchanged since they took over the 4's from the ashes of Ace. so it was basically a 1919 design 4 cylinder (or even older).

so for 1936 they tried an unconventional overhead exhaust valve and a side intake valve which proved "unreliable". further, "as most of these models were sold to law enforcement, the subsequent complaints" led to an attempt improve the design in 37 with a twin carb set up. so thats the deal on the 1936 four cylinders, and I only chose this bike to shoot yesterday at random so there's a surprise around every corner with bike designs. still is I suppose.

I opt for the Lumix for the close ups, but may have to start trying the Nikon.
