Factory tour to see your bike being build would be great PR! Sort of like the BMW tours way back in the 80's (not sure if the do that anymore).

I would think that a lot of people would be reluctant to buy a bike with no dealer network. Parts, service, warranty, etc. Yeah, I realize it's been done before, but I do think that having a network in place sorta builds credibility in the minds of potential customers. I know that I often hear that complaint about some other brands, where the person like it says, "but the nearest dealer is 400 mile away..."

Just one of the many aspects they have to consider when attempting to launch a new brand...

Chevrolet had that program where you could help assemble your Corvette engine. Something like that would generate good PR for Motus.

Or they could just ship you a box of parts and let you assemble your bike in your very own garage.

If you are talking about the BMW Motorrad factory in Berlin, then yes they still do tours. My wife and I took the tour when we were in Germany 2 years ago. It was awesome. :D

Of course any of these things require that they actually have the parts. :rofl

I sent an email through Motus' web site, Lee Conn (president) responded:

"thanks for the note. We will be releasing the production bikes very soon and dealers will begin taking deliveries late this summer/fall. We will definitely be doing the Barber Vintage Fest again this year, it's our favorite event. As for tours, absolutely. Anytime after July, just let us know when you may be in our area and we'd be glad to have you by Motus HQ (located in the original Barber museum location). All our dealers are taking reservations now for 2013 MST's."

He also sent some audio files of a bike doing a flyby....cool.

That's cool news. All I work on are projects that seem to take twice as long to get done as originally hoped. So I'll cut Motus some slack.

Looking forward to seeing one in the flesh.

I used ot work for a company that makes farm tractors. Buyers could basically do the same thing. They could come in and watch their $150k tractor being assembled. It was really cool (on paper). However, I had to wonder how often it backfired. We had major quality issues and line stoppages. There were many times when we couldn't get the tractor in the right spot on the line because of stoppages and there were even a couple of times when the tractor got to the end of the line and wouldn't start.

That's the reality of New projects, they always take longer than anticipated to get up and running.

Embedded for posterity: Looks like a model release at Laguna Seca this year for '14 models.
