Sounds like a good time. I used to live in Rome and rode all around N GA. One of the things I love about the Chattahoochee is all the back woods camping spots off the forest roads. One can wander around out there all day and just pick a nice spot when tired.

I plan to head back up there on occasion. I'll haul my bike though.
Have fun an take lots of pics.

Hauling my DR650 to Elijah. Then making three day tour of forest roads. Hoping for gentle weather. Wish me luck. Loading in the rain this morning.

Good luck Vic. Robin and I stayed at he Sratford Motor Inn last year when we rode the TETS. They let me leave my truck there for several days no problem.

Ya never know. I took a chance and headed to north Georgia in hopes of covering some tracks I was sent some time back. My bride wont let me travel alone so she went with me. Loaded the DR650 on the truck and headed to Ellijay. Long ride and wifey don't alike Atlanta traffic but we made in in 7hrs or so. Left in the rain but finished it the sunshine.

Stayed at new Best Western. Very nice with 70 rate. I packed up and head out at 9AM and wifey went different route to meet up in Hiawassee GA.

Most outstanding day I must say!...:clap:clap:clap

Tracks were mostly forest roads and county roads but super fantastic. Bare forest showed the mountain naked with a strange barren feel. Most of the day I was following a flowing rock bed streams and rocky double track. The DR was a joy to ride both on and off the road.

    Few quick pics for now.

    More to come.

This is a great ride and I really enjoyed it. Something I felt good doing solo and not worried about trail problems.

Weather stopped me from day three and there were a few road closures that I did not think about...dahhh it is February.

BUT I had two PERFECT days riding.

Robin and I hit a road closure near Helen that was wayyyyy down the trail where a landslide had happened. There was a huge tree blocking the road. About 10 miles in. Did you come to that little surprise?

No but part of the route was closed during the winter months so I did miss some of the good stuff.

I'm glad you got to go. Sometimes it's better just to go alone. It's almost a spiritual thing.

    Hope Alice enjoyed herself.

Actually it IS a spiritual thing. Something about being alone on a ride like that. I know Inept, Barney and you to name a few know what it's like.

I bought a Spot so Alice could track me or if I needed help. Worked well for me.

The other thing I really enjoyed was following tracks into the unknown. I love that shit. Like coming up on that rever crossing. Or coming down out off the mountain and into a rolling valley.

Can't wait for better weather and time to go again. :clap

Nice Vic, I thought that road looked familiar. The first time you see that river and realize you have to ride down it aways to cross over is a little exciting..:D

Now you got me wanting to burn some vacation. Hmmmm, before it gets hot up there, or wait till after summer? I think I really like the fall more but spring is great too. Decisions, decisions...

Of course the obvious time NOT to go is when I did. I got lucky and had two outstanding days of riding. But I bailed at threat of snow and below 20s which is the average for this time of year.

Also, several of the Forest Roads were closed during the winter months. I talked with on of the Rangers and he said when they close em its cause "they" cant make it safely. I sure wasn't going to venture out there on my own.

I like spring myself cause the "leave watcher" aren't there and I like green. This winter riding however really shows you a raw/naked mountains.

These outstanding tracks came from ADV somewhere but I cant seem to find them now. Of course there are many variations but this was really well thought out and hit all the good stuff.
