Just a coupla pics from Harrietville area today..

the fires are out since the rain a coupla days ago...

I spoke to the gent manning the road closure at Harrietville...he says crews are working on the landslides which closed the Great Alpine way down hill from the Dargo HP turn off...weather permitting they are aiming for an opening this Thursday or Friday in time for the long weekend ONLY...the road will be closed again for continueing repairs...

Omeo to Hotham is open..road closed at the tunnel at Hotham.
Dargo HP closed from Mt Blowhard turn off.

This is what the Ovens River near Harrietville looks like today...

I wondered what was happening with the fires today - even with the roaring easterly, there was no smoke in the air for a change.. :clap

I wandered along the licola road today, but couldn't bring myself to take photos. In fact I turned back halfway. It just didn't seem right to be out having fun .

as I understand it, the road itself has slipped away as well as landslides onto it.
It may well open for the long weekend but winter is being touted as a full reopening. Cant have the skiers being disadvantaged after all.
Base camp at Omeo was completely gone last wednesday and only the rehabilitation crew remain as extras at Swifts Creek depot.
Around 70mm rain last few days, higher in places.

We spent tuesday and wednesday nights at mt beauty while the rain bucketed down, we just declared wednesday a rest day, everyone we talked to was so relived with the rain, went to morie's at harrietville for lunch in thursday and they were pleased to see us as things have been very slow for them.

Also did a run up mt buffalo.

On the way back from the Supers, I did the Anglers rest to Mt Beauty (via Falls) last Tuesday... fantastic :clap

Camped Monday night at Anglers Rest (opp the Blue Duck), nice pub but pricey for a feed.

I have heard the Hotham and Dargo roads will be closed until all the widow makers are cut away from the road. Could be months on some of the side roads.

Pic 7 is looking north from the top of the Horn...it's the road leading up to the Horn.
The stone building is at the Horn carpark on the south side.

    Thanks. :D

Riding to the places that I like to camp at and leaving V Twin home to be solo parent to the boys. :lol3 Hopefully I don't get lost as I am not that great at navigation :shog so may have to use the GPS. :nod

If I feel like it I will collect him on my way thru and we will ride together to check out South Australia for a couple of weeks.

Was glad to see that Dobbo has already done the road from Omeo thru to Falls Creek and Mt Beauty as I will probably do that on my trip. :nod
