Last year was a blast, I want to do it again. This year's dates are:

    Three Sunrise Drives 2013:

Sunday, June 30 – open at 3:30 AM
Sunday, July 28 – open at 4:00 AM
Sunday, August 25 – open at 4:30 AM

I'm thinking June, one night camp in Gorham, same style as last year:

Ride up Sat, camp, wake up, see sunrise, eat breakfast, go back to camp, pack, ride home.

I could probably do any of those dates but the July date would work best for me. I might try to make a weekend out of It, though. Ride up on Friday. Do some notches or go hiking on Saturday and ride home with you guys after breakfast on Sunday.

interresting. can you tell us a bit how it goes?
I mean, assuming it is a non-rainy non-windy morning so they let us going up:

are they really letting bikes going up in the dark or is it a shuttle?

is this crowded, lining up at 3h30 only to be stuck climbing at 20 mph...?

Yes, the let the bikes up. if it is clear, it's beautiful. If it is rainy, it sucks.

Nothing special about riding the auto road in the dark - it actually looks safer in the dark :deal

Crowded, yes. Last year we went an hour before opening and we stuck in line for about as long just to get to the gate.

I like June, since it is at 3:30 - less people up at that hour.

Like HM said, there may be a long line to wait in to get to the gate to go up, but I was extremely impressed at how the gate attendant spaced folks out so that the ride up the auto road was actually very smooth and were weren't trying to clutch walk the bikes up by being stuck behind some freaking Prius! Thought the length of time we had to wait in line to get TO the gate was going to assure that, as well as not getting to the summit before light. I was pleasantly wrong on both accounts! We were able to get to the top in more than enough time and we weren't staring at a rear bumper at all! :clap was perfect.

As for Henry, he's a pussy, plain and simple. It's dark, the cliffs are still there..... You just can't see 'em!:lol3

Just don't go to sleep. You can stay by the campfire until it's time to ride the mountain. At least you'll be up to wake the rest of us :lol3

Last year we got like 2 hrs of sleep and the ride home was rather brutal

Henry- Are you staying at Dolly Copp campground? I think I may be able to swing the June or even the July date.

I like to stay at Moose brook state park in Gorham. You cross Jefferson Notch from 302, then continue to Gorham. It's pretty nice, bike friendly, and less than 15 minutes away from the Auto Road.

I'm not sure yet whether June or July, but I'll know by the end of the weekend.

I'm trying to throw together an interesting route via Francestown, Warner, and Sandwich Notch, Tripoli, Jefferson Notch...at least for the way up.

Will post when I have it - was out this weekend.

No worries. If you are planning on the 20th of June I am in unless the weather is gonna suck. I will probably ride up Friday night and stay with family in the Campton area then meet up with whomever at the campground Saturday night.

June 30th, not 20th. I wish I could do Friday, but kids keep me at one night only for the time being.

HM when were you thinking of reserving a site? If the weather looks good a week or so in advance I'll come up friday afternoon, grab a site, and bum around saturday doing some notch riding.

I was thinking about Moose Brook State Park. The sites fit 4 adults, so we could split a site, perhaps...
