My F8 Ran Flawless On The 2800 Mile Epic "Forever West Adventure"

    2,800 Miles and 2 weeks. 95% off pavement, maybe more. From 4,500' to 10,700' in altitude. 200 mile stretches without hitting pavement or seeing civilization sometimes.
    6 bikes, only 2 would give zero problems. My F8 and the 1200 Adventure. All the others to some degree had issues. All of them we fixed, but it was duely noted that the 2 bikes from Munich were the only 2 never to complain. At all.
    She did well fellas. 15,500 logged miles now too.

    Just finished a 1000 mile trip completely self supporting on the OBDR with my 800. We did a more extreme version of it that was really challenging to say the least. The bmw never complained but I sure did. After my fourth big moto trip each with 900 mile stretches with some serious technical riding I am thinking of downsizing her as she is a beast to throw around. Had about 100#'s extra gear on board and she was heavy! If I keep it up either I will be hurt or the BMW will be. The bike is perfect for long gavel roads and highway. Get it in the technical stuff and it is a handful!

    My schedule precluded sneeking up on ya, but would have enjoyed the meet-up.

    100 pounds of gear on a smaller bike will make it an evil handler as well.

    I used the giant loop bag but too much stuff had to have the panniers too. Tried to have only the giant loop but it couldn't hold 7 days of food, tent, sleeping bag, water filter, stove, stove fuel, extra gas, bike tools, tire tubes, air compressor, warmer clothes. We didn't have any support truck as we were our only support.

    In the air conditioned parking garage of course !

    OK, OK, so we gave ourselves one afternoon of pleasure. :freaky
    That was after coming off the Pony Express in Utah which ran us 210 miles across the desert non stop. The casino was in Wendover Nevada, the only island of refuge for after that it was another 230 miles with nothing in between. So it was stay there or tent it again in the desert. The casino won. I was up late playing craps that night too.

    I just did a 2K mile trip and she ran flawlessly as well. The more I ride her the more I love her.

    That desierto windshield looks terrible though--you should sell it to me!

    I had my 2009 Sunset Yellow F800GS on a 3,400 mile adventure and it ran flawlessly. The trip took me through temps ranging from 25 degrees F to 95 degrees F, humidities of 15% all the way up to 80%, and altitudes of 500ft all the way up to 12,183ft going through Rocky Mountain National Park on Trail Ridge Road. The bike worked perfect. Since then I've been on multiple 1,000-2,000 mile trips. Still working perfectly. Gotta love BMW fuel injection, that's all I have to say!:deal

    I did 9 days and 3,000 miles to eastern Oregon on my 2009 F800GS last month without a problem...except for when it decided to take a nap in a bunch of ruts covered in bull dust. This bike rocks :thumb

    They are still the nuts ! They took a lot of abuse, non stop for 14 days. No fork seal leaks, no blown cartridges because they cant blow, and consistent action. I did bottom them though when I hit a raised cattle guard in Colo at about 60mph :pissed
    The road was washed out and the steel guard was raised so much my friend who was ahead of me, turned around to warn the rest of us, but not in time before I whacked it. Man did I whack it too.
    On another note, my buddie with the R/T units, his seals were leaking after 200 miles believe it or not. When he called R/T to complain, they didnt want to know him.
    Ill say one thing, you wont get better customer support anywhere then they give you at Traxxion. 1st class operation. And Dan (Indy Unlimited), is still working closely with them to dial the F8 AK-20's into absolute perfection. Dan and I do both recomend speed bleeders on the forks. Mine have them and they release a lot of air in a short time. They are of course noticably plusher after purging the air. But thats universal with any forks.

    did the route 3 this summer. Only time the cooling fan has ever come on. At the end, I had the same thought... a lighter bike would be nice. She did keep up with my brothers 640adv though, and ran flawless the whole time. I think I'll keep her, just looking now to add a DR350 to the stable as well.

    Glad to hear Traxxion is doing things for the F8.
    They have been transforming GoldWings for years.
    I've had the pleasure of visiting their facility in Georgia; Great Folks!

    Now, if they would only update their Site to show our bikes!!!

    R/T = Race Tech? Why did the seals go? did they over fill the forks with oil? Why would the cartridge and spring affect the seals, or is it an installation thing? Did R/T install the cartridge or your buddy?

    Hi Dave,
    Yea, Race Tech. No big deal, I mean its a consumeable and could have been just a bad set of seals. But they both went in short order. R/T did the install. They know what they are doing, but what was disturbing was they practiclly hung up on him. No after sale support, at least with him. And for the $ they should at least humor you.
    Whats short order ? Like under 200 miles.
