Three girls... and oh.. yes one guy :ddog! Just kidding !:rofl

They´re planning to drive from Mexico city to Canada in 20 days...to get to the Jazz Festival in Toronto.

    But I have questions...

    1. Hows the weather like by the end of june?? In cities like Toronto, Montreal, Otawa and Quebec?

    2. What hotels dos you suggest in Toronto?

    3. What do you suggest to do/eat... etc in places like In cities like Toronto, Montreal, Otawa and Quebec?

    4. Which is the best part to se the Niagara Falls??

and the last one.. on the boarder USA-Canada they have to pay something for their motorcycles??

Well... Thanks for your help! :clap

Tell them to have a great time, that's a really nice part of the country where they're going to, try to stay off the major highways, they're just too busy and you won't see anything, take the smaller roads and see the country. Ottawa and Montreal are world class cities as well IMHO

Sounds like it'll be an amazing trip - I drove across Canada and tour'd that region back in 2007 - keep it cheap and real and they will have a blast!

Well, where to start. First, the riders should have a great time at any of their destinations. As previously mentioned, if possible stay off the 400 series highways as they are multi-lane and usually very busy at least in the Toronto area. There are typically parallel roads that are more interesting.

If the riders enter Canada at Niagara Falls on the U.S. side they will have the opportunity to view from both vantages. The Canadian side is more picturesque. A ride on the Maid of the Mist or the more exciting jet boats might be in order. While it's a major highway, travelling from Niagara Falls via the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way) is an easy way to get to downtown Toronto.

Weather in late June early July is typically mid to high 20's daytime and mid to high teens night time. Perfect walking weather for their in-city walking tours.

Have a look at Hotwire.com for hotel rooms in their chosen cities. They will have to book ahead if in town for the Toronto Jazz Festival. Choose Downtown East or Downtown West so that walking to venues is easy. We like to stay at a budget hotel "Alexandria" which is a bit of a walk to the downtown core but we really enjoy walking in Toronto. There are also 2 or 3 Back Packer's inns in the downtown area. The advantage with the Back Packers is that they will meet other young people there with like interests. Google them and be sure to check for secure parking re: the bikes.

To do/eat. Sky is the limit! What are their interests? When we are in Toronto we seek out Mexican/Latin American kitchens :rofl but I suspect they will be looking for other foods. You can dine around the world in Toronto. A walk along Queen Street West will expose them to such restaurants. All very casual. A walk to Kensington Market (Goole is your friend) is always fun especially for street buskers and people watching. Another nice walk is the board walk along Lake Ontario east of the downtown core. Access via Queen St. East. Beaches there too. The TTC (Toronto Transit System) is their friend and makes it easy to get around the city.

Other than bridge tolls there will be no fees for their motorcycles but for peace of mind you can check with Canada Customs at www.canadacustoms.ca

Ottawa again, stay near downtown if not in a hotel a Bed and Breakfast. Walk to the Parliament Buildings, Byward Market and the Rideau Canal.

Montreal, again stay downtown. Walk Old Montreal. When in Quebec don't forget to try a casual Poutine - fries with gravy and cheese. Lots of good restaurants in Montreal - again, you can dine around the world.

There is a $3 charge on the bridge to Canada. To see Niagara Falls, check out this site. The adventure pass is much cheaper bought online and it includes the Maid of the Mist, which is the best way to see the Falls. Park at the Butterfly Conservatory and take the free bus that is included in the pass. Stick to the Parks commission stuff and ignore the casinos and Clifton Hill--extremely tacky.

Tell them to take the all day one fee bus that runs from the Falls to Niagara on the Lake which is interesting to see for a few hours, some wine tours will likely be in order.
Don't forget that a Wallenda will be walking a tightrope across the Falls in mid-June. They should get there real early for that one!

In San Antonio they should look up some of the regulars from the Is Mexico Safe thread.

I am just off the road on the way to Detroit from Chicago.

I would recommend treating Detroit a lot like a Mexican border town.
Hmmmm. Maybe Reynosa is safer than Detroit. :lol3

On day 8 they travel from Detroit to Niagara on the Lake, if they cross the border at Detroit and if they don't want to travel main highways try hwy 3 which runs parallel to lake Erie, they can get off and travel right along the lake if they prefer. This way will take about 6 to 7 hrs depending on how fast they travel.

I still have questions about where is the best place to see the Niagara Falls???[/QUOTE]

    The Maid of the Mist

Its a boat that gets up close and personal to the falls from the river below, pretty cool experience!

We got tickets and boarded from the Canadian side a couple summers ago, can't remember if they launch from the US side as well.

At the visitor center you can get within meters of the edge of the falls.
Just walk out onto the deck and then to the edge, it is surprising how close you can get.

The Maid of the Mist (boat), the tunnels where you can get in behind the waterfalls and the best place for viewing the falls is on the Canadian side. At night the falls are lit up in different colours as well. There's a cable car across the gorge just down the river, there's helicopter flights over the falls from just outside the city (all on the Canadian side). Like I said before you have to go the tourist bureau to find out everything to do.

Little bit of trivia, on the Canadian side, Sir Adam Beck was the man in charge when hydro power was first generated there and he decided to charge a little extra on every kilowatt of power sold. The money was used to buy all the land along the Niagara river on the Canadian side and turned into parkland so people could enjoy it. It's still all parkland between Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake :clap

And that parkland is one of my favorite motorcycle rides, period. A nice, casual cruise on a light traffic day from the falls to the Shaw Festival does wonders for the head.

I mapped that route for you

    Google Map

Austin to Saint Louis is going to be a real snoozefest. I drove from Houston to OK City last year and I had to keep stopping to slam my head in the door just for the variety. Maybe someone familiar with the area can make some route suggestions.

6,500 miles or so Wow! About 300 a day. Not too tough I suppose.

Try Austin to Indy. That's a snoozefest too! Except for the terror that is the interstate through / past Little Rock. Lots of evidence of previous wrecks on that stretch.

You may want to put a couple 'flexible' or rest days in the schedule. Day after day of 300+ miles may make the trip tougher. You won't have much time to see the areas you are passing through. Also, it is VERY possible to lose a day due to really bad weather in the midwest (north Texas to Ohio)

I have rode my bike from Ohio to Mexico City, and there was some terrible weather in Akransas for one day.

I can provide some advice or support for Indiana, Michigan & Ohio.
