I run 140/80/18 Tires on my 640/450/250 with Bibs ALL DAY LONG !!!
:huh It's not a question of whether a 120 with a bib will work. The bibs he got are for a 110 tire even though he ordered the size for a 120. 110 bib in a 120 tire will end up with major rim damage and the bib disintegrating.
but a 110 tire on a 450 in the dez????
not a good match IMO.
Yeah. Why is that?
Small foot print
lower ride hight.
Maxxis Dez IT 6 ply
( This is the Tire Maxxis Mike called out for)
I just talked to him on the phone
I made some good progress the past two days. I got my tires mounted on both wheel sets. Saturday morning I went down to RMATV to exchange my Maxxis 120's for the 110's but they were sold out of the 110's. Oh shit! After looking through the catalog and talking to Fano on the phone I decided to go with the Dunlop mx71 for the rear in the size 120/90-18. If they're good enough for Kurt then they're good enough for me and they fit the Mefo bibs perfectly.
My bike is all together and ready to rock. I've also got friend Steve's bike put back together to take for spares. Today I got the trailer bearings replaced and packed, lights fixed, and a box of spares and chemicals packed.
Tomorrow I'll focus on my nutritional needs. I'll get the rest of the food I'll want during the race and some electrolytes for the camel back.
Wednesday will be a rest day. Hang out with the kids, afternoon massage, and then the final pack and to bed early. Yeah right:)
Start drinking water
It's ALOT of work! I put a new front tire (MX71) on with a fresh bib (been running a mx51 and the bib was well worn and soft). The new tire/bib was stiff enough that I took a click of compression out of the forks.
More rain today in Nevada. Looks like the area around Hawthorne had heavy rain.
You'll like the 71. More durable.
So rain may mean the wash crossings may have some sharp edges.?
yes watch out for flash flood washes.. they blend in..sometimes deep and short so it will kick your ass up.. a flying W at 80 is absolutely puckering.. they will sneak up on you and you will have to wheelie over them.. some will be only a foot and broke down from earlier bikes/quads but some will be suprisingly high at two to three feet
Exactly. What I have experienced (when riding in similar areas to where the course will be) is that when it rains hard, and the course runs along the base of nearby hills, the runoff coming down hill can cut square edges into the track. With enough rain, the cuts can be really deep. Don't know if this will be a factor, just trying to think ahead of what we might encounter.
On the way now
Pre riders meeting energy drinks
Here is the link for my spot.
Have one or three for me.
It's 4:30 day of. Just woke up and it's time to get ready. I'm going to try to eat some breakfast, drink some coffee and do some stretching. Man the nerves are racing. I need to calm the f@&k down. It's just a trail ride with a bunch of strangers.
I'll post some more after the finish but I'm sure Fano will send updates throughout the day. Between mixing drinks
Good luck brother. See you in reno tonight.

You've got this Schylar...I'll be watching.
I just know you'll have the most fun ever during this race!! NOT to sound like a Mom but Fano, remember to keep our boy hydrated and fed. We don't need another crazy "Joker" incident! I'm VERY SAD to not be riding along but will have my eyes on all day so please keep us sideliners posted.
Just got off the phone with Fano.
No major issues or get offs. and he is feeling good.
