He was nuts selling it to somebody as meticulous as me. I could have sued!
Lyndon is responsible for me test riding a 990 adventure, then actually visiting a real KTM shop, then spending money there. Then going back and spending more time there, figuring out I need three KTM's!
I think I'll be forced to compromise with one. And now I'm in a muddle over which is the one.
When you get a minute, I have a question:
My bike appears to have the oil-leak-from-the-base-gasket issue like yours. Mine has 40,xxx miles. Should I re-fresh the top end while I have it out and apart, or just fix the oil leak?
PS you might have delayed reply as Lyndon is currently in Chile participating the Dakar!!

2003 KTM 950 Adventure S - Lovingly cared for by a careful owner, never raced or rallied (much). Full detailed service history (this thread and more!).
Oil and filters changed more times than I can remember
Engine fully rebuilt at ~65,000 miles with brand new cases and full set of bearings and shells.
Every single engine upgrade / revised part is fitted to this engine
- Crank and flywheel
- Outer clutch basket
- Oil distribution systems and oil rails
- New piston rings
- Cylinder heads fully stripped, inspected and serviced.
- Revised cylinders installed
- New output shaft fitted
- New gear shift fork rollers fitted
- Revised shift drum installed
- Starter clutch system upgraded
- Latest balancer shaft assembly with cylindrical roller bearing
- Valve clearances stable - never move.
Water pump replaced every 20,000 regardless and was done at 80,000.
Engine still on original clutch plates (that's how mechanically sympathetic I am) and still perfectly in spec.
SAS fully removed and billet blanking plates installed.
Later oil tank and revised oil return and breather hoses fitted. New non-return valve and seal fitted.
2nd Fan installed.
Suspension: Full 320mm travel conversion front and rear shock, cost a fortune to develop.
- Increased oil chamber capacity on rear shock
- Orange rear shock spring
- .64 front fork springs, made to fit 320mm travel.
- Valving set-up for 50/50, on / off-road - compromise.
Happy to sell with standard 265mm standard 'S' suspension with 0.59 fork springs.
Fully adjustable side-stand modified to suit any suspension installed.
Large foot on side-stand.
ADV Tank rear fuel tank.
Facet 40171 fuel pump with micro filters.
Emig 20mm offset tripple clamps in black with Emig one-way damper (fully serviced by Emig 5 months ago)
Renthal RC high bars with Cycra Pro-Bend hand guards (even the alloy part of the guards are anodised black).
Black Evolutione clutch slave cylinder
Standard exhaust header pipes with 2-1 link pipe and single Akrapovic Silencer.
G-It black bash plate with tool roll holder.
G-It rear rack
Standard grab handles fitted and bike comes with Touratech (standard KTM) luggage rack and all fittings.
Choice of boxes, beat to shit but still work Touratech Zega's with liners or Gobi KTM plastic boxes.
Crash guards for tanks - choice of three, all scratched and rusted!

- 21" x 1.6" Excel A60 front rim in Black

- Standard front master cylinder with twin discs currently fitted
- My own 1 into 2 brake line rail system with Goodridge braided hoses. No interference with cockpit as the upper part of the brake line does not move, only the lower portions. Works perfect.
- Comes with SE master cylinder and single brake line for single disk running option and more feel off-road
- KTM Sintered pads front and rear - recent.
Scotts shark fin rear disk protection
Recent KTM DID chain and Dirt Tricks Sprockets - currently on 17/42 for road use.
Spare sprocket carrier with 45T Dirt Tricks fitted.
Tyres - black and round, usually pretty worn!
Carbon Tank guards, one side gravel rashed through to tank but did it's job.
Subframe strengthened and powder coated black
Swing arm replaced with latest SE swing arm, powder coated black and fitted with chain guide.
Engine hangers, rear footrests and other stuff powder coated black.
KTM 450 Factory Rally footpegs (longer and meatier!)
Low front fender and high front fender (currently fitted with low fender) with all fittings.
Modified carbs for response and jetted for sea level.
New airbox with my own K&N pre-filter kit installed with spare charger covers.
Fitted with Scottoiler (automatic chain oiler).
Euro light with HID in both high and low beam.
Large rally grips, lock-wires and grip heaters fitted
Garmin Montana and powered / lockable mount
12V heated clothing outlet.
Renazco Racing tall / wide winter road seat (water proof) or +2" Suede seat - both black.
Mousses, tubes, whatever, I have it all.
Probably missed a load of stuff, this is just off the top of my head.
Wants for nothing, if it needs it, it gets it......................

The end of an era??? :eek1 We hope not. I have to say I have sold a lot of motorized vehicles in my time and there are a few that I really, really miss and kick myself for selling. Just sayin.....
Course having a rally bike in the garage that finished the Dakar would probably ease the pain a bit.
Pyn, I have to ask. What's next?
Oh, and I think that KTM should buy back that bike so that they can study it.

Had a Pyndon Syndrome also at 55000kms, exhaust valves have some buildup:
But will just try to seal the rear base (only that one leaking), will also lift front cylinder to look and add silicone around the bases as i have seen Pyndon suggest somewere in this monster thread.
