It's a good school. You'll probably want to bring your ural as the Kymco cruiser they use as their learner rig is attached to a lightweight plastic velorex rig. It doesn't have the same inertia and handling characteristics as the heavier ural.
Super easy to fly the chair, though.
Yep, I'm taking my Ural. I was suppose to be in the S/TEP class today but a sudden vision problem (Vitreous hemorrhage ) caused me to reschedule.

The Vitreous hemorrhage has just about cleared up with just a few floaters left. It was scary. Going almost blind in one eye in about a half hour.
Floaters can be a real pain too. Got one that takes a bit of my central vision on one eye. Hope they clear.
Gene's jet set is very good for break in and can be long term also. After 5000 km I changed to the original main jets (for a 2011) 122's and Gossey needles. Runs very well.
For now 900rpm is good. After break in it can be set to 600-800, but be aware it will be a bit reluctant to idle until warmed a bit. Still all works well.
And I thought I was the only one with a bottle of mercury left for carb sticks I use a twinmax now though - easier to set up.

My right eye vision is almost back to normal.
Been using my mercury stick for thirty years or more. I just take the caps off the carbs and hook it up.
Going to the 130 main and 45 pilot appears to have cost me 3-4 MPG ( from 31 to 27) on the last two tanks of fuel. I'll try 128 main and 42 pilot next to see I can get the lost MPG back. Sure does run better and warms up asap here in warm FL.
Got the following from Jan at Gossie when I inquired about the needle.
needles fit straight in the engine without further changes or adjustments.
Needles were designed to keep the engine cooler as the air/fuel mixture
was terrible. Extra profit was abt. 30% more power.
Note that at that time the Urals had a standard main jet of 120. For a
little more power in the middle range you can fit a
123 main jet in combination with a K&N E-2470 air filter. In the States
we advise to add abt. 15CC lub. oil on a full tank to the fuel, to
reduce a wear on the needle owing to the very poor fuel quality.
Price of the needles is 25,50 euro/ea. Shipping charges are 5,-- euro by
normal mail and 17,50 by registered mail which is guaranteed.

Have you had the wear problem mentioned in the above email or do you use a upper lube like Marvel Mystery Oil as suggested in the email? 15 cc or one half of an ounce doesn't seem like much to four gallons of fuel. My stock main was a 125.

Love the bike but please remove the top box, it really doesn't fit the bike. Just my opinion (but please listen to it).

Great rig! I really love the look of that Yamal, the teeth and all. Fantastic! A shame that they don't have it here in The Netherlands. While I have plans to come to the US and do a tour for a couple of months, I might as well buy a Ural there and take it back to Europe. If it's not too big a hassle with the customs and our DMV.
One small remark about the topcase:
Wouldn't a Hepco&Becker Xplorer be a more fitting case for the Yamal?
If spray-painted the same orange as the Ural, it would look the works!
I do use MMO based on Gene's suggestions as a can't hurt, only help with our ethanol contaminated fuels. No problems with wear on needles yet (5000 km on them). The 2011 jets are bigger than the ones Jan mentioned - those 120's apparently were in the older bikes. Changing to the smaller jets hasn't helped my mileage that much, but I tend to run a lot of highway miles at 90-100 kph. With a tail wind sometimes 31-33mpg, mostly though 28mpg.
As you get the k's on it the motor will run better and better, just like the old beemers (R60 and earlier).

I think Jan is saying to use the stock jetting whatever it is with his needles.
I'm hoping to get some MPG back because the range is bad enough with the stock jetting. (31 vs 27 MPG)
I'll just put the stock jets back in if I get the Gossie needles.
Anyway, is my figuring on the price of the Gossie needles correct at ( 2 plus registered shipping) 68.5 euros?

Edit: Ordered two needles without registered shipping at 56 euros on advice from guy on Soviet Steeds.
You'll like the class. I'm currently taking one in WA state.

The eyes are healed according to the retina specialist so I am good to go. I had tears in both retinas. Old age is the probable cause since I don't have diabetes or any trauma.
Leaving in a bit for the 4 hour ride North on back roads to the class in Eustis. Weather here in FL is just wonderful with highs in the low 80's and lows in the mid 50s. Have my camera ready for the
1500 kms on the Yamal with no issues.
