    Nice title, eh?

I thought I'd try my hand at documenting the slow (seriously, it's slow) build I'm working on.

In the summer of 09 I found a 79 r100rt on craigslist. The price was right, and the wife gave it the OK. Day one:

The bike was last tagged in 1995. The brakes were shot, carbs were gross, and there was some pretty awesome electrical work...

I'd never intended to buy an RT, but airheads don't pop up too often around here, so I went for it. I proceeded to recoup a decent chunk of my $$$ selling off the fairing, trunk, and backrest. :evil

Fast-forward a bit and the bike looks something like this:

I enjoyed it like that for the rest of the summer and fall, but before long things started falling off...

At which point I sold off my bucket-of-parts Triumph (red/black tank in the picture above) and this fellow followed me home...

I started to get wild ideas about putting together a /2 conversion with the r100 engine and drivetrain. I bought a /2 frame, tank, and seat, and quickly realized that my funds and my dreams did not align. I kept the /2 frame (with title!) and sold off the other bits I'd accumulated for the conversion. Maybe someday it'll happen...

But I digress... Where were we? Oh yeah, parts falling off. Here's a quick and dirty mockup of my vision at the time:

I spent a while swapping out headlights until I found one that I liked. It's a really shallow old fog light that I was able to tuck it in tight against the frame between the forks. I want the profile to be similar to old Triumph desert sleds (sans headlight), so getting it in there good and tight should help keep that area clean.

Here it is mocked up and toying with the idea of a little fly screen of some sort:

love the high pipes. Bend and go over the tire? Dont even know if that is even feasible over the tire or top side. I can see a real small seat on it so that would work. I personally dont like the high fender, but its your bike. Go with your gut.
