Welcome Andrew ...
Have ya looked at any of my photos
Hay LD,. Just checking in with a pic.....my son's senior photo with Red and Daisy,. I miss them so much.
I guess ya got your stickers?
Is that sorrel a cribber/windsucker ?
Or just resting muzzle on the post ?
Quarters or paints ?
yes he was a cribber, I wondered if you would catch his ears beeing back and feeling of the post, shows you have been around horses a time or two, I just fixed everything around him so he couldn't do it, he was just such a good horse I didn't want to get rid of him.
Red was a Quarter gelding
Daisy was a paint mare
Red was the best trail horse I have ever had, he would jump creeks, swim across a lake, nothing spooked him even in the dark.
If I was working on fience Red was within arms reach at all times, such good company he was.
I use to make leather collars for my cribbers...
I couldn't let the broodmares teach their foals to start..
Been around them my whole life . And very close and personal with them..
Yes I can read equine body language well..
A geek in that dept.
Nice wide fore heads . On them
A good horse is worth it's weight .
As you have read I'm down to old stock..
So when was the photo taken ?
As you say you miss them ..
12years ago, my boy is 30 as of yesterday, I had a bribbing colar on him for a while but ended up just putting 2 inch steal pipe around the stalls, he wasn't to distructive with it but it got a bit anoying if you were in the barn with him and he could get ahold of something wood.
My daughter started riding him out by herself when she was 10, I was totally confident with her on him.
Had a mare that learned to suck with out grabbing a hold of a fixed object !
Hey did you every get your stickers ? Bannedcamp ?
Happy 30th Birthday to your Boy !
yes I did, thank you.
Good deal ...
It has been nice chatting with you ..
But it's that time , have a few chores to do ...
Yep..... if you don't feed the cows they will get out, and if they aint bucket trained it can get ugly
Our Longhorns will go walk about ...
The mountain is not fenced for miles...
So they just go looking for a bull...
But they all come back home.
And then we have calves
We have never owned a bull on this farm...
The old farm we did AI on cattle only , and had a clean up bull..
Back then we raised Reg. Angus and sold calves as seed stock and club calves...
But not that here. Started with 3 long horns and now have 14 on the farm..
As you have seen in all the photos on the back pages...
We have had some wind damage on the farm the other day ..
Here's the photos of the tree that fell on the fence post !
You can see how the tree drove the post down another 2 feet !
Thank goodness it didn't demolish the fence !
It's a huge Poplar tree aka Tuliptree ...
You can see it had some rot in side the trunk and at the base..
It's sister had fallen about 8 yrs ago .And had been used in the woodstove.....
This tree is going to be a real PITA to get under control to cut up...
We have a nester gate to get on the other side.
If you look all the way to the right 4 fence sections you can see a white rope.
Damn! Glad that you folks are safe.
Can you use that wood for next winter?
In maybe 2 yrs. . If we can get it cut up and split this year ..
Our cattle hang right by the roots of that tree..
So really glad they are OK...
That one looks like it might be trouble...be careful getting it cut up. You for sure have a job in front of you. Glad to hear your stock is OK.
Been an interesting Winter/Spring eh? Warmest February in like "ever" and now calling for snow tomorrow and a low of 21° I knew we weren't going to get off this easy. No snow so far, but lots of wind last week & tornadoes all around us.
Best to you both...hope to raise a glass with you this year.
Had a popular tree that size fall across the only road that accessed Stephen State Park in Hackettstown, NJ. About 500M away from the unit I was assigned to....My First Sergeant sent me and another guy over with one of these to drag it into the woods...too much trouble to cut it up with the manpower they had:
It's been a mild winter, but we've had some wind... Glad the wind damage there was pretty contained.
Wish i was closer to come help y'all cut that thing up.
WOW I can't believe I haven't written in my thread since March !
I'll have to get ya's up to speed. In a few weeks.
Look what had strolled through the yard...This later afternoon .
The top 2 were taken from the kitchen sink window.
Anyone who has been here knows this .
Around 8 pm ..
Then he turned back around.
Then he headed to the kitchen entrance.
He looks to be about a 2+ year old
I think this is the one that walked through the garden about a month ago?
He then when to the front of the porch.
This was taken from the big living room window. Yuppers you can see the garden .
The great ScooterCat ,warned us about the bear in the first place..
We where watching a movie " Lighting Jack " And scoot trotted across the room growling !
Heading for the bedroom ! I thought it was just a tom cat that spooked her ...
Boy was I wrong.. I grabbed the camera, as I said to HB A BEAR !
Then I started snapping pic... With out giving myself away ...
Don finally went outside and shot by the bear.. Who then skedaddle in to the woods fast !
Scootercat is still looking for the bear .. You can see by her body language
she is upset and alert , BTW she did go under the bed !
Ya got to love living on a mountain top.
I don't live around bears....and I have a huge fear of them....I don't camp.
So, pardon my ignorance on the subject.
Shouldn't you have something that absolutely keeps bears off your property ?
I mean, couldn't they charge you when you're outside ?
Could they go crazy and break down your door or come through a window ?
I really really don't like bears.....they're scary !!!
