    Nice work T.
My solution is to keep mice out of the house.
Where they can get in (garages, storage, etc) Dcon.
Hot pepper wax ought to keep them from chewing on stuff...

Well we had a new calf born !
One of our long yearlings had a baby!
That means she was bred as an 8month old :yikes
I don't know what she had yet..

She wont stand still long enough.
    I'll post a photo tomorrow.

sometimes cows are funny, we had a patch of cedar trees in the woods probably 150ft square, every single calf that was born on my farm for 30 years was born in that patch of trees, my wife called it the nursery, it did make it nice to know I didn't have to walk the entire farm to find out if we had a calf or not.

looks like your cows go to the most difficult place to get to as well.

WOW .. What an insane 3 days ..
I woke up Thursday morning feeling like I had been dragged behind a truck !
And the back of my throat up high was killer sore.
I had not been sick in 20 yrs.

So I started taking Echinacea and Zinc... And some antihistamines.
Woke up Friday and still felt bad.
I had HB take over the cart for me as I told them ,I would be there. And I didn't want to contaminate anyone with what ever I had .I stayed home and HB took my Beast and the cart. For both days Fri. & Sat. What a trooper ...

Sat morning I dragged myself in the big truck to the Urgent care. I thought that taking a bike might not be wise. And wind on me might make things worse.
Glad I did take the truck I ran the heat on high . As I was cold and shivering .

Yes HB wanted to take me But I told him NO..You run the cart, After all it was Youth Hunting day . And the cart needed to feed the kiddies...

Well Urgent care was only 20 miles from the farm and the best 65 bucks I had spent.
The DR was really sweet .And very concerned . My blood pressure and other vitals he said was good. Temp was a little low.
Both my ear drums had blown . Oh yeah I kind of knew that {looked it up } . As the pain in my ears was something I would never wish on anyone. And drainage ugh ..I had never went through anything Like that, Such pressure! At 1 am when the ears blew, it relived some what and wow the head sounds ! It sounded like and ocean and crickets and other strange sounds ..

Dr. called in Steroids and antibiotics . Also the best 9 bucks I had spent .. LOL
Still don't feel great but I can feel it's getting better.. And that's a good thing.
I just wanted to share this , just in case some one else might get this .

It really hit with out any warning.. No sneezing fits like with a cold.
I was fine one day a sick as a dog the next..

The head in a bubble feeling is really weird . Still sounds crickets.
Not like a cold feeling , Not stuffy . Just odd .

I did get some great pic of the little calf the other day ..
    I'll post them in a few ...

    Have a Wonderful day .....

Thanks for asking Andrew , Was up most of the night dang Steroids.
The head pressure is still there :baldy

Last night one blew once again .. Then I was able to sleep for 3 hour.
Body wise I feel a whole lot better. And that is a real Plus..

I think I'll call over and chat with the Dr. to see if this is ok ..

Well as promised some pic's of the new calf..
    And of course her mom...
Here she is taking care of an itch ...
    DSCN2324.JPG

She sure is a cutie... You can see she is not a black.. She is growing like a weed.. and mom just loves her baby..
    DSCN2329.JPG

A heifer being so young herself and having a calf before the age of 2 she is doing great ...
Just look at this nice cow, and look at that bag ...

    DSCN2327.JPG

We believe this bull calf is the daddy baby ... He really is handsome specimen .
But we need to sell him. as he is related to the cows in the herd but 4..
And he already has a calf with 1 ... :lol3

    How about some herd pic...
Meet Poncho . He use to be the heard leader, and still sorta is .
He is now 15 yrs old..
    DSCN2319.JPG
This is Cisco , The full-blooded l long horn . She is the mom of Tory .. She too is 15..
    DSCN2322.JPG

Here is Lefty She is also 15 yrs. These 3 are the main start of our LongHorn / Corriente Cattle

    DSCN2321.JPG

And now Tory also a full blooded Long Horn. He is now 11 yrs old. And a steer.
The new heard leader ,Well joint leader.. He brings up the rear to keep every one together. Tory and Poncho battled a few years back.. Thank goodness now one got hurt.. It lasted a few hours.

    DSCN2320.JPG

We started our heard with 2 Heifers and 1 steer... Cisco was bred when we got her..
The 2 cows have been very on getting themselves bred . We have never owned a bull..
And have maybe a total of about 30 head. Most of the bull calves ,we get rid of fast ..
We keep the heifers.. You can see some of our stock are naturally polled ( no horns)
That's a Charolais cross that Lefty had standing next to her, and yes her Daughter from 6 yrs ago...
And that Mocha cow is also the Momma to that young Bull of ours..

Both Cisco and Lefty have not had calves since 2011.. I think they are done..
But ya never know ,old cows get very fussy on who the breed with..
The Charolais that they bred to back in 2010 was magnificent !

Nice herd! Dairy Expo is going on here, lots of pics of perfect cattle on the local news shows.
Hope you feel better soon, glad you had coverage for work, sounds like the weekend was busy.

Here is Charro and Castanet ,when they were babies back in 2009..

This is Castanet now at 8 yrs. she has given us 1 calf who had her own baby last year .

    DSCN2317.JPG
And Charro who is also 8 yrs . and has NEVER had a baby . Be now believe her to what is known as a
freemartin , We now believe she had a male twin that was stillborn.. Cisco didn't calve her on the farm. The cattle were on walkabout when she calved. So in a 4 mile range we just couldn't find where she dropped the kids.. You might remember a year or 2 back she was real sick when she got wire wrapped around her hind leg .. And we had to knock her out and clean her leg up .. Yuppers she is fine now..
    DSCN2316.JPG

4 head of the herd are missing from this pic .. They where on the other side of the driveway..
As you can see the baby is right in with the herd . All the cattle introduce themselves to the new born.
And will protect it with their lives. It's a very close knit family ..
