Fall colour ride with our Valk buddies in Robbinsville…
We woke up early Friday morning to find we are fogged in !!!
You can see how pretty our yard tree is this year !!

But it will lift … WE think and hope… Once we got out of our driveway it got worse!!
You can just barely see HB in front of me …

There was an eerie look to the trees as the fog lifted..

The trees are almost glowing for us !!!

Yuppers I took a shot of my favorite trees on our main drag 61…You can see the difference that 2 weeks can make !

Once we hit 460 the fog was gone !!!

WE met up with our friends FON1961 , Or who we lovingly call Tall Paul. Being that we were meeting up it was a good time to grab a bite to eat, in Johnson city ,At the Chinese Buffet there..

And BigTom…

After the rocky start it turned out to be a grand day for a ride..

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky…

And fall colours are at there peak in the south..

The NC mountains are into view !!

Yeah Motorcycles are everywhere.. Keep an eye out !!

You can see why TallPaul rides a big Valk ….At the bike being 8’ long…It can handle that 6’8” frame of his.

Yuppers a pop of Colour…

The water looks low !!!

I just liked how this looked..

I like Pampas grass.. I wish it could grow on the mountain..

LOL … Now ya know where I was.. I think this is the most photographed shed..

My buddy Detn8er had his grandson with him. And he kept telling him that LadyDraco would be there ..
And was sure I could take him for a ride up and down the block..

We went back and fourth a few time.. Then Brandon had had enough…

Then we all walked to the Mexican restaurant …

LOL this place should never be confused with the El Paso that we had with the BDWR gang…

Smokin’Joe got a little excited… You can see the look on Reb’s face is a WTF ???? He had really spilled his drink.

This is one of my buddies bikes…Note the Sticker …

We had 2 nice fires going on that chilly night…

My buddy Hubcap… This shot is for you Jax…

I like how this photo came out..

Britman brought this stuff with him… And to be Honest with you It tasted like kerosene.. Not like good shine…

Well at least Gig didn’t burn his underwear this trip..

Everyone enjoying lies and other tales..

Ms Reba always parties with our group….It was good to see her this year.. She had been in ill health for a few years.

Nothing but trouble sitting here….

I like this shot of Skinhead…

Britman is driving a huge truck, going around the south promoting .Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips.
He brought a bunch for us to sample…

I think I would do a good job selling them...

NormanDog wondering if IT is behind him…

Yup that’s Stanley Steamer… It’s a full time job….

Skinheads bike and friends got TPed by shall I say.. Gig and his gal pal…
Needless to say SH was NOT amused in the dewy morning …Damp TP is a bitch to remove…

HB and I had to hit the road .. As we had a Wedding to go to on Sat evening ….
The views were spectator in the morning…

Peak colours by dawns early light …

It was some what chilly….

This old Jalopy was cool.. But it was going soooo slow…

When we got a chance … We passed it….

We took a new route to get to Damascus, Va…It sure stayed dark and dingy..
Most of the day… But it was still a good day to ride….

Stay tuned for the Wedding in Damascus….

Well our little back way cut through the wood took a little longer then we had planned..
We made it to the Montgomery House (B&B with out the Breakfast) about 2:30.. That was where we are going to spend the night.. And the big plus ,it’s with in walking distance …
All the rooms at the Old Mill Inn was booked full.. The Wedding was to start at 5 pm…
So we had just enough time for us to unpack check out our room, and take showers ..
And get ready for the wedding…. The wedding is of our friends Son.. Who is also one of our farm sitters…

The never did come out…But about 4 pm a few clouds moved out of the way ..
The old Mill Inn is right along the river… And along the river means Ducks !!!!

Here are 2 Muscovy's 1 male and a female..

Here’s a little flock of male Mallards .. They have a little gang ..

This is Bill, with one of his Grandbaby’s…

This was a cute idea .. They had every one sign the swing.. Then they clear coated it..
What a nice way to remember all who came to celebrate the big day..

I miss my Muscovy ducks I use to raise them..
This male has such a grand face..

Here’s the alter.. The whole family got it ready.. I think it came out nice..

LOL this was great … Ben’s last chance to get away…

Here’s that male again…He was a real ham…

HB and Bill chatting …

The wedding table .. The bird cage thingy on the left was for cards. How cute…It was FULL by the evening ..

The wedding cake, It’s an uniced kind..

There was bird seed in the little sacks.. So glad they stopped using rice.. As it was killing the little birds that ate it..
What happens is it blows up in their tummies.. So now Bird seed is what ya throw at the happy couple!!

Inside these little boxes, were chocolate covered Coffee beans, Boy were they Yummy…

Kelly, Benny’s bride to be did all the table decorations.. Cool…

Ok on the left Jackie’s Mom , a niece ,Then the daughter Lura Beth, and Jackie Mother of the Groom…And my GF..

Bottoms up … I love it when ducks do this…

Ya got to love a country gal.. Kelly had boots on under her dress….Ata girl…

OK so it’s a duck in flight.. I like it…

Just before they said their I do’s the sun peeked out …

Ahh the first kiss…

I give you Mr & Mrs Pruett .. aka Benny and Kelly….

This was the first time I have ever seen anything like this at a wedding.. Very cute..

Charlie and Jackie and their family +1 …
Oh as you know Charlie and Jackie ride . They are even in my RR’s from time to time..
And so does their daughter Lura Beth and Benny too…I don’t know if Kelly rides..

Now for the dinner … HB said that the food was most excellent…

And I would have to agree .. I was very happy with my plate too..

He is another buddy of ours.. He also rides..

Charlie filled a XXX jug with Shine..

This is Charlie’s other Brother .. He’s a pharmacists

Charlie’s mom. Mary Catherine.. IICR she had a few swigs.. Oh the horror !!! LOL…

Jackie wanting a kiss… LOL… I had forgotten what Charlie had said …

Even Kelly had a snort full…. Hmm that doesn't sound very lady like ...

And see what happens when the wedding party has shine …They all put napkins on their heads ..

It’s nice to know that this tradition is still alive and well..

At least they don’t use shaving cream any more..

Well I hope ya’ll enjoyed the wedding… We had a great weekend.. From seeing our Riding buddies and then
Having our friends marry off their son….

Stay tuned for The Storm Sandy ….. The Halloween Snow Storm…

The end of Oct brought us Winter Storm Sandy…
I’m not sure I like winter storms having names.. Seems kind of silly to me..
Oh well…

Here on the farm we are always ready for just about anything that comes down the pike.. It's just the way we are and always have been..
And getting ready for Sandy just means more work..

We started getting the critters ready … That means feeding everyone..

Cisco.. Is one of our original cows that we got when we moved here..
My gosh she is 10 yrs old now…

Here’s Cream.. She is now 2 yrs old,Cisco is her Mom ,Her sire is a Charolais bull that lived up the road a few miles..Her and Mocha are the only ones that were born polled (Hornless)

We put 3 round bales out… Our Ford 3000 does an OK job…That’s the snow blower on the back.
It makes a good counter weight for the Big bales… I sure do miss our Kubota.. That was one helluva tractor. We sold it with our other farm.
That was a mistake that still kicks me in the ass…
I have had this tractor since 1975 …She still runs good and we work it’s ass off…

That’s Poncho he is also 10 yrs… You really can’t see just how big this steer truly is..
He use to be TopDog .. But he has lost his hierarchy at feeding time..
But still has leadership when it comes to taking them around the farm and to water and nap places and such..

This is Charo… She was born 4 yrs ago.. She is still a looker .With her pretty markings..

We are the piped piper.. That’s the whole herd.. We started with 3 head Cisco was pregnant already before she came to us..
We have never had a bull … Nature finds a way… Hey that’s just like in Jurassic park.. Hahaha

That’s Lefty on the left and Poncho on her other side ..They are very good buddies.. She is also 10 yrs… And that’s Tory on the right .. He was our first born here at this farm..
Wow he is going to be 7 yrs.. Both him and Cisco are Full Long Horns.. Poncho and Lefty are Corrientes..
Did you know that Corrientes were the first cattle brought to the Americas by the Spanish explorers in the late 15th century

Castanet and Tuco.. Tuco is part Holstein dairy cattle… Castanet we think is part Angus as is Charro ..

As you can see right now the storm really isn’t that bad .. That’s why we did chores early… Hey you can see the tip of the spear...
So we didn’t have to fight the storm..

The horses are just hanging out…I had helped foal out all here but 1 .. I had saved her, Mariah from the killers back in 1992 she was only 4 yrs and had already had a foal…They had just weaned her from it … She was a sorry mess when we saved her…That’s Dixie in the fore ground she was bite by a rattle snake as a yearling …So she never left the nest… Oops sorry for rambling about the fur kids…

This was the first time I ever grew Carnations.. Man they sure smell good..
I have always liked the way they smelled very pleasant with a hint of spice …

I had decided to pick a few apples before we lost them all to a deep freeze. And the strong winds that were on the way..So I headed up the mountain.

This tree lost all it’s leaves .. But still had a few apples left..

This tree still had everything left…Remember it’s only the end of Oct..

Ya haven’t lived till ya have an apple that has been frost bitten while still on the tree..
That really pops the flavor out of them and they are so much sweeter then normal , plus they have a crispness that is hard to describe…

Here try it …

Well the storm really kicked in over night…The snow was heavy and wet.. I was sure glad we had done the chores before the storm hit big time… We got 10 inches from it.. If it was the light fluffy kind there is NO telling how deep it could have been..
I couldn’t resist doing this…

Here’s a bite out of the snow…It had settled down a little by the time I did this…

Being that the snow was so heavy we raked the roof…I have got to thank Klay for hooking us up on where to buy them …As around here they have never heard of a Roof Rake. For the snow…

Here’s a nice shot of the front of the house …

Our pumpkins did so well this year.. I was able to save one and turn it into a Jack O Lantern ..
That’s something I don’t always get to do, Instead of putting it up in the deep freeze as pie later on…

Well it looks like I’m almost caught up with the RR’s and Farm life…
Just a few Christmas photos and then this last Snow storm Idgo.

HB had a great Birthday...He said tell everyone Thank You for the Wishes...

The 6 in that field has only 1 broodmare left from our breeding program.
The ages are 13-25 ... The other 4 are just kids that never left home...
We also still have 1 <s>Stud</s>Stallion left... He is now 27... He hasn't been with a mare in OMG 10 yrs now..Poor guy ...
We use to breed Thoroughbreds~ QuarterHorses~ And AngloArabs.. At one time we had 40 head back in the late 80-early 00...From 15 broodmares ..2 Studs~ Foals/Yearlings/2 yer old.. WE would Train~Start~and Sell..And breed.. Some babies hit the tracks.. Some were Event Horses~Some show ring hunters~Endurance~Team Penning ..We had a nice diverse program..
That just the 2 of us ran..

We also had a retirement program on the farm as well...And would take in
a few old show horses...

But pretty much what is left is not fully broke.. So nothing rides that's left...
Too bad to as I do miss riding from time to time.. If we tried to finish 1 hell at their age they could have a heart attack ...LOL

So they are just here living.... A life as liberty horses..In a very tight knit herd.. Of 1 mom 1 daughter,2 siblings ,2 who know them all..
Now it's kinda of hard to split up a family..

Sorry for the rambling...

I thought I would combine both Christmas and NewYears together
in this posting....

We had a quiet Christmas..

Christmas eve we spent with Charlie and Jackie and the family...
They had a most wonderful Xmas supper..
Some of the best Homemade lump crab cakes ,I have ever had..
Then they also had smoked a ham and a Smoked Turkey .. I don't know how they were .. But Everyone sure did rave about them....

ScooterCat was looking for her gifts from SantaKitteh.

She said she was a good Kitteh all year ...
Where's my stuff.. But she didn't know it was still to early..

While Scootercat was sound a sleep dreaming of catnip toys and mice..
SantaKitteh had come ...You can see the 2 white tiny packages at the base..

She was so excited on Christmas morning .. As SantaKitteh had come and did remember that she was such a good little girl...

She opened her gift with glee...By the warmth of the stove...

We all had a grand Christmas....

Happy 2013 !!! Can you believe it !!!
NewYears We stayed home....
I did make a nice Baklava..

Wow was it tasty and so easy to make...

NewsYears day also brought us a very cool visitor to the bird feeders..
And this fine bird has been coming by every few days now...

Can you see it ?? I know it's not the best of photos..
It's a Pileated Woodpecker.. They sure are the Grandest of the Woodpeckers...

Well with the chores done ..
And it being so dang frigid out.. I was able to do this last storm ...
So now I'm all caught up... Hmm maybe I can work on a retro RR now :D

For a week the weather folks talked about the winter storm Idgo..
I still don’t know why they need to name winter storms…
It has to be somebody’s brain fart of an idea…

Well the storm hit almost on time .. It was 2 hours late…
But when it came WOW .. It was dropping snow at a rate of 1”-2” per hour !!
But it did slow up some..

By night fall we had at least 6 inches..

It was a very wet and heavy snow …We lost the phone line first.. Then the power went out next..
I did have to use the emergency phone to call in the phone being out …
I really don’t like the NEW and improved automated systems they have…
As it doesn’t recognizes a tracphone’s touch pad.. WAPITA that was…But I got through finally ..
To someone in India !! Yeah like they know what’s going on in VA.!!!

I had just finished prepping supper (Veggie Chili) So I stuck it on the woodstove to finishing heating up…

We lost 4 big limbs on the long needle pine out front

Mother Nature sure does a poorass job of tree trimming. At least no fences where damaged..

We got 12 inches of snow…

At least the Spruce tree was spared…

HB made a few passes with the snow blower first… But it kept jamming with the wet snow..

Snow always makes everything look so pristine..

The horses made tracks in the snow… We had already put round bales out the day before..

HB then switched to the quad and plow…I stopped to say hi to Annie …
