My wife has been riding her own bike on and off for 10 years now. She has had a Ninja 500 for the last 3 seasons but doesn't get to ride a lot. Most often she is content to ride along on my Strom on longer days and use her bike for quick afternoon rides.

So I was very surprised when I suggested we make a quick trip to the White mountains for an over night camping weekend and she announced she was taking her bike. We had talked about this in the past but she had never gotten the courage to break out of her bubble and ride for 2 days.

Since I wasn't really planning on going anywhere I had to scurry around Friday night changing my tires and helping her fit soft bags to her bike. So Saturday morning we still had to gather our gear and pack for the road. She was very happy to have all the extra room her bags gave her. Typically I am a packing nazi and don't let her bring much for extras since we pack for two on the strom to include cooking gear.

    well on with some Pics...

All loaded up and ready to go..

Looking happy to be headed out..

about an hour out we found this Handy little store to stop and get a drink and give her a break..:D

A great old Barn we found along the road..

Our destination..Timberland Camping Area in Shelburne NH

The new owners Dave and Lori..they plan to be very motorcycle friendly...they are riders as well.

something about a woman in riding boots and shorts..:evil
we made camp and then went for a ride..

It was really just an easy 100 mile day but it was a big deal for her because she broke out of her safety bubble. We set up camp and spent the rest of the day cruising around on my Strom sight seeing a bit..

Then it was off to do a little grocery shopping and back to camp for supper. Sorry no food pics but fire grilled chicken, steamed asparagus and rice was on the menu..

    After dinner relaxing

Next morning I woke early to make coffee and a fire for when my wife awoke..

then I scrambled up some eggs while she toasted some bagels..

Then we cleaned up camp and packed up to take the longer way home..

We probably did 165 miles or so on the return trip, cutting down through the White Mountains and then back home to Maine. She did very well, had to stop a few times to rest and took a long lunch but she made the trip. I think she really enjoyed herself and grew a bit as a rider this weekend. I have a feeling it was a first of many trips for her on her own bike.

a few more random pics from the ride home..

Great post.....at least right up to when you started putting your ugly mug in front of the camera. I do agree on on thing, the shorts and boots together was "HOT"! Looks like you two had a great time. I'm dying to get out and have some fun but the low temps around here for the last week have been 100+. I think I'll just wait until it cools down a bit.

Looks like a nice trip. :nod

Your situation is about like ours; the wife likes to ride, but only so far in a day, then she like to get on with me and do some cruising around.

Things go quite well when I let her set the pace.

did you ride the north road?

anyone with a little time to ride should take that ride on the north side of the river.. just watch out for the "corner"...that 90 deg. one....

Did you get to ride up the auto road to the summit of mount washington? I'm planning a ride out that way in the next few weeks. Also where is the Timberland Camping Area located? Looked like a nice trip.
