If it isn't too late please add me to the list (most likely)
Looking forward to meeting you and seeing your bike. I'm assuming you have the XR250L. I've never actually seen one but hear they are good bikes.
Yes, 250L. I'm guessing the bike will be more capable than the rider...
Looking forward to meeting you
Today we cheated. The roads are to icy for the motorcycles, so we took the jeep and went exploring.
Some of the gravel down this was is starting to heave and have boils. There were a couple south of Annandale that I could not get through in my truck.
ToadL, the reason you haven't ever seen a 250L is simple. Thousands of years ago a meteorite hit the earth and killed off all the dinosaurs. Examples like this one, therefore, are few and far between. Most are in far off museums and are not allowed to see the light of day (for fear that they would simply crumble to dust. Dinosaur I tell ya...
I'm looking forward to hanging out with you guys, it's gonna be fun!
Yup, EXACTLY what I'm talkin' about!
Are the Paul Bunyan trails going to be open by May 17th? I'm Serious. I guess Huntersville and SpiderLake will but they're not quit as fun.
We havent heard anything yet. Im getting kind of worried about that myself. Oh Well. Even if they are not, we will figure something out.
Gunna do my darndest to make it this year! that is if the snow melts up yonder! And still keeping my fingers crossed my work schedule does interfere! who knows maybe I can breakin my new tennie runners/riding shoes!
oh yeah I'm in the middle of talking in a noob to come with too! Thats is if he can hang with us folks going threw the tree obstacle course some people refer to the Paul Bunyan Forest...
Have you ever said, "maybe," and not come?
Okay, it may be ambitious, A friend and I are planning on riding at Huntersville on April 28th. I expect some snow, water, and mud. Anyone can come but I'm also looking for feedback if it will even be possible. How much snow is there right now?
Long days, bright sun, and no leaves on the trees.
On this map:
it looks like Huntersville is in the 20 to 40 inch range.
On this UMN map:
I think Huntersville is in the 12 inch zone, but that map's date April 18, and it might not include the recent snow. The southern part of that map shows no snow, and I know for a fact that's not current.
I think there might be a mix of old and new measurements here:
(Above map is from http://www.weatherstreet.com/city_snow_depth/56464-Huntersville-MN-snow-depth.htm)
So, I'd say there's a bunch of snow at Huntersville, and it might be tough riding there next weekend. Or maybe not.
I'd call the ranger in Bemidji and see what he says. 218-308-2372<small></small>
I'd tag along if you don't mind...if the trails are passable. The extended forecast for Park Rapids shows a 55 degree high for this coming Friday and 66 with rain on Saturday. That should do a number on the snow...
Great! Come along. I'm thinking it will be passable. The snow and mud will be an extra challenge. Trying to keep positive and am ingoring Stumpy Pete's post.
I called the DNR today to make sure the trails in Huntersville are actually open. They said the trails will be closing on Thursday, so I guess Huntersville is out for the near future.
On a positive note, they said Paul Bunyan should be open by May 17th, unless it keeps snowing. He actually said it would be hard to believe it will still be closed by then.
Well, the ride in Wisconsin earlier that week is off - trail closures - so I can certainly make this one!!
Pray for decent weather from now 'til then!
Hope to see you all in a few weeks.
I'll be headed to the Appleton OHV park in southwestern Minnesota on Sunday, if any of my South Dakota friends want to join us. It's the only State Forest open this weekend.
That ain't a forest, it's a gravel pit! If you like loose sand & gravel, it's kind of fun. The back 40 for bikes only is a bit of a hoot - high speed, banked curves.
Any idea when you'll be there?
