    Day 2: ~40 miles

Didn't have any epic plans for saturday. Just wanted to poke around near Lookout City area because i'd never been there before. Wasn't expecting a long ride so no need for an early start. Only four in our little group... myself, rfmorris, windrat, and trailtrick. Apparently windrat had done most of the same stuff the previous day, but was up for seeing it all again. I've never actually ridden with windrat before, though we've crossed paths several times before... somehow always with a bottle of tequila involved.

    Gettin ready to roll.

Climbing the gravel-sand wash up into the Argus Range.

Osborne Cabin, our first stop of the day.

Very clean and tidy inside and out.

    Make yourself at home.

We were being watched the whole time we were there.

A truck pulled up with a cooler full of Mickeys. They must've known I would be there :beer
    [IMG]

    Local geology.

Back down the canyon and heading south.

Planning the next move. It was about here that trailtrick split off and set his sights on Pleasant and South Park.

    Starting up towards Lookout City.

Check out that folded rock :huh
    [IMG]

    Rockin' good time.

I took the side canyon up to Defense Mine. Oooof! Super tough climb. One of the very rare times when I could've used a lower first gear.

Some jeepers told me you could go in one tunnel, follow the signs thru, and come out at another spot. Hmmmm... Maybe next time.

Didn't figure rfmorris or windrat would try comming all the way up on their heavier 690s, so I tiptoed back down.
Saw morris about halfway up, gettin turned around...

... and windrat waiting patiently at the bottom.

The switchback over there will take us up to Lookout City.

The road is surprisingly nice up on the ridgeline. View is even better!

    Local foliage.

Lookout City, or whats left of it. Living up here must've been... different.

windrat and morris hung out a bit checking cell phone reception (I think there was none), but I had different plans :evil
There is supposedly another way down the mountain. If successful, we would meet at Minnietta Cabin down below.

    Ah... there it is.

    No turnin back now :nah
    [IMG]

    ... but what a view!

    :clap
    [IMG]

A nameless cabin sits at the end of the two-track in Thompson Canyon.

Emergency shelter if you need it, but I wouldn't really trust the roof.

    She waits :raabia
    [IMG]

That must've been one uncomfortable ride... no wheels, no chain, no seat :eek1
    [IMG]

this outcrop just above Minietta was tunneled like swiss cheese.

Rode right in and took a look around. The cool breeze blowing thru felt like air conditioning.

On down to Minnietta Cabin to regroup with morris and windrat.

The guys we met over at Osborne were staying for several days. Totally set up!

Super nice guys. We must've hung out for at least a couple hours, drinking brews and staring at the view.
I think we each also earned a degree in geology :lol3

    Time to move on...
The cabin boys suggested we might get cell reception partway down Minnietta Road, so we went to check it out. No luck, but we did find a tight sand wash that took us back up to Nadeau Road.

    This was a blast :ricky
    [IMG]

One of the funnest sections of the weekend.

    Heading north, back to PSR.

Thanks for the 'do-over' windrat :thumb
    [IMG]

Back at camp and the FF's are eagerly thumbing their raffle tickets...

... while h8chains was glowing with all the attention.

Spent the end of the day digesting a fantastic dinner around DSM8's dryer fire.

(Was that a few too many pics?)

Nope, not too many pics. Great report.

Defense Mine is what I was trying to remember a hundred pages back on the planning thread. Was there by jeep during Panamint Valley Days back in '05. Way cool place. I was wondering if anyone would ride up there, I couldn't remember the name nor where it was.

That's a good climb in a jeep, we ran 35's and lockers, no trouble. Did go thru the mine, came out the other side. Climbed some ladders in there, found unexploded tnt in boxes, almost fell off one of the ladders. Great place to visit.

Was that back off Nadeau Road?

Woot woot! Riding with these guys was a hoot. I was pretty amazed that those guys never dropped their Ducatis the entire ride - I almost dropped the DR200 once or twice lol!

    Hi there,

This was my fist ever DV trip therefore everything I see, everywhere I go was a big WOW for me. This is my first RR so please read accordingly... :D
    Here we go:

I left work at 5:30pm Friday and I knew that it is gonna be dark when I get to the camp.

And it was just pitch black...

There is nothing much about Friday night, it was a 4 hour ride in dark but beautiful night. No rain, no cold, almost perfect for riding. And when I got to the camp bunch of friendly AdrRiders welcomed me, most of them were already waisted by the way... :freaky

I was excited to be there and got ready for the Saturday ride early in the morning.

Joel was counting his money that he made from all of us PPs... I heard that he is in the market for a new 950SM... :rayof
    [IMG]

I have always wanted to take this shot. :D
    [IMG]

M1Jeep and h8chain was kust too happy to be there...

I just LOVE my bike :raabia
    [IMG]

Waiting for the rest of the gang to hit Chloride Cliff.

    Big Guns of AdvRider
    [IMG]

Tom (el zorillo) had a small problem with his cables but got it fixed in seconds
    [IMG]

    KLRRob having deep thoughts... :1drink
    [IMG]

    Chloride Cliff welcomes me...

I like the colors on this one
    [IMG]

After lunch we headed to Titus Canyon. By the time we got there it was only me, KLRRob and M1Jeep left.

We had a short break in the middle of the canyon and talked about how wonderfully painfull it would be if there was a water rush as we stand there... :D
    [IMG]

I have couple other pics but I promised Rich that I am not gonna post them here... :amazon
This is not one of them. :evil
    [IMG]

Then we headed back to the camp for the dinner. But we missed it again... :cry
    Sunday RR is next...

Capt.Saveaho, crw, and my trip started Thursday morning at 0600. I picked up CRW at his house, then drove to my parents house 20 minutes away to get my stuff and savaho, and his stuff. It was raining really hard, and it sucked to get loaded up in. No pics, and in our rush to get out of the rain we forgot some stuff. Oh well. We got to PSR around 1630, and were greeted by the constant howl of wind. We got camp set up, then headed to the restraunt for some nice greasy food to lube up our arteries. On our way out we met DSM8 who invited us to join him going over South Pass towards Hunter mountain in the morning. We agreed to meet up with him in the morning to attempt Hunter Mountain....How bad could it be, it's the desert after all.

We left camp Friday morning around 0830 or so headed towards Saline Valley Rd.

DSM8 and Capt.Saveaho chat at Father Crowley point on the way to Saline Valley Rd.

Photo Op on Saline Valley Rd.... Saveaho's hands are cold.

    The birthday boy himself.

As we approached the south pass it got cold.........I thought we were riding in the desert?

DSM8 LOVES the snow. Poor guy, we kept telling him it cleared up just around the next corner. He finally caught on and said "go 5 miles, turn around and come back. I'll wait here." If we had actually gone 5 miles he'd probably still be waiting.

Another shot of the Hunter Mountain Parking lot.

We finally made it 200' up Hunter mountain. Saveaho does his happy dance.

    CRW on over South Pass.

A shot looking east from Saline Valley Rd. at the base of Hunter Mountain.

After what seemed like an eternity getting our bikes back to something that resembled a snowy rd we headed back towards 190. We took a little detour on some fun single track that I dint get many pics of because, well, I was riding and it was flowing pretty well.

    DSM8 finishing the single track.

We headed back to 190 where we ate a snack. DSM8 headed back to camp while saveaho, CRW and I headed towards Darwin. Not many pics of the ride into or out of Darwin because again we found ourselves on some 2 track that flowed really well. We were flyin, and I was having a great time watching saveaho and CRW bounce off each other while jockeying for position as we flew through the desert at 40-50.

A quick shot of CRW eying up the road we took from Darwin to somehow get us back to PSR.
