This afternoon, coming back from work. In moderately heavy traffic on the freeway. Guy on a Kawi ZX6R passes me. He's wearing sneakers, jeans, t-shirt, NO gloves. Backpack. Hi-vis vest, which appears to be part of his work uniform. (Construction work, I'm guessing.)

He's maybe 30 feet in front of me. 50 or so feet in front of him, a Minivan slows for traffic. He must not have been paying attention. Switches from rolling ON the throttle to chopping the gas, and locking up the rear wheel. No joke: Smoke pouring off the rear for about 30-40 feet! Avoids rear-ending the Minivan by less than a foot.

Never touched his front brake. Fucking Harley riders... :fpalm

Skills, people! Fucking learn how to ride!

How could you tell he never applied the front brake? Weight transfer from applying front brakes would have made it easier to lock up the rear. Also, I would not have expected the rear brake alone to be adequate to stop a bike in that distance, especially after locking the rear and breaking traction.

What is your basis for comparing a Kawi ZX6R to a Harley?

Weight will transfer to the front even if you're just using the rear brake. Try it tomorrow.

I can't tell that he NEVER applied the front brakes. But, he wasn't giving them more than a tickle, if anything. I can tell 'cuz he couldn't stop. Idjit just slid and slid and slid with blue smoke billowing from his rear tire contact patch.

One time I was on a ride with two friends -- one in front and one behind. I lost focus for a few seconds, and when I clued back in, my friend in front was stopped waiting for a left turn. The friend following me said my rear wheel made it about two feet in the air. That's what emergency braking looks like. :deal

I think he was real hard on the front if the distance you gave are correct. and if he was not paying attention, then he did a great job recovering.:clap

You never asked me what his speed was. Seems you can't make any fact-based judgement without that information, yet that isn't stopping you. Interesting. :*sip*

Moderate heavy Freeway 55-65mph here in KC

So what did your radar have him at? After all I witness testimony is the most unreliable information available!:deal

They're on the gas not the brakes.

Stopping from 50mph in 50' seems pretty good?

And to be honest, the rear brake on MY ZX6R does sweet fuck all when trying to stop. It's only good for keeping you stopped at the lights, or keeping the front end down a bit at the start of a race.

Wasn't 50 mph. I'll check my GPS track, but it was maybe half that. This was stop and go traffic.

Thanks for playing. Did I mention I was right behind him? No radar, but I'll check my GPS track.

Rest-assured the following: The SPEED was so low (stop and go traffic) that it was patently obvious that he could have easily stopped if he had applied his FRONT brake. :deal

he said he was obviously not using the front brake.

i can't find the videos of those bike gods power sliding (and sometimes drifting both tires before the drift starts) around turns for that one guy that was confused about them only using the rear brake, but

    THANK YOU :clap:clap
