Two weekends ago, Ted and I went for a quick one-day trip to Baja to see if we could put up with the heat.

WE could, but Ted's rear tire couldn't!

We were about a mile out of town. I rode straight through a trash pile. Ted stopped well before the trash pile, and promptly got a flat. So we just turned around, wobbled back to town, and stopped at the first llanteria.

"Si, tu tienis un flat tire!"

    Five Dollars!

    HaHaHaHaHaHaHa!
Ted should have paid more! The $5 fix lasted to here:

This is the only pic I have of Ted not smiling.

Damn, it was hot. Really good time to find a bit of shade and have a rest while he monkeys around with his wheel.

    My bike waiting patiently.

    All good!

    Next, I lost the trail.

    Then I found it :eek1

    LOOK!
    A new canyon to explore!!!!!!!!!

Only we won't be checking it out because my knees hurt and this guy has another flat tire.

Now we get to play how-far-can-you-ride-with-a-front-tube-in-your-rear-tire.

    Well, at least this far.

But not as far as the top of this hill!

Beautiful spot for a tire change!

Last spare tube. He might be in for a bit of a walk if he gets another puncture.

Ok, tails between our legs, we take the easy way back to the truck.

Thanks for posting the pic of the line that separates the country where there is lots of crime and political corruption from the country where we can ride around and enjoy our freedom.

    Awesome weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks guys!
I haven't been to Baja for a couple of months. It was excellent to be back. Beautiful weather. Crisp clear skies. Really good link-up of hard singletrack.

At one point, in a very remote canyon, we missed a turn and ended up heading down a jeep trail and bumped into 3 guys from Tijuana in a pickup truck with no gas. They asked how far to town/gas. I told them 15 miles. This is a road that maybe sees one vehicle a month. They would have had a long walk, or a really long wait. We had gassed up the 3 bikes at the last town, so we were able to give them a couple of gallons. They asked "How much?"

It felt very good to say "Nothing".
    Good karma points for dirt-bikers.

Then we rode on, with shadows lengthening, and found the harder stuff. We don't often have to use 3 people to get each bike up something, but we did on Saturday. Got back to camp just before dark. I really should fix the headlight some day.
