    Rent a storage unit?
    Ask the motel/apt manager?

Put it on its side stand in front of an OXXO, then place a pan of oil under it.

Nobody will touch it, especially for four weeks.

Seriously speaking , may I suggest giving Hotel Estacion a visit at 1279 Calzado Independencia Sur.
Talk to the manager and see if you can make a deal for storing the bike there.
It is a very large hotel ,on north side of the railway and the station, 1km south of the zocalo and centro historico.
They have a big enclosed secure parking lot but also a small inside space at the exit to that parking area. I use this hotel regularly and they encourage me to park the bike inside that secure space.
If you speak with the manager you may be able to arrange some form of paid storage for the bike for the several weeks duration of your amigos trip back to Germany. This will also work out well for him having a room arranged on the days before and after his flight.Such rental of a room would greatly add to the possibility of the manager agreeing to your request . You will be able to find near the hotel public transit connections to/from the airport
The hotel is very nice, modern from the era of mass rail travel, but underutilized because it is not considered swanky by the hoi poloi. Room rates are very reasonable ,it is not a fleabag dump .The regular traffic which walks by the area of the bike is not a worry.

The used oil will be taken first.
It's used to treat cut wood for palapas and other building.
    Nothing is safe....:D

A reddish/pink color signals the use of used tranny fluid. Tis true.

And it all works quite well...:D

Looks like the oil pan trick is working so far. All that has been stolen is the North Face softshell that was sitting on the ground next to it.

Thanks for the input all! Looks like a storage unit it will be.
