Quickest/ fastest overland route from DF to Panama please
Although I started a bit northeast of D.F. in Pachuca, I got to Panama City in five days. Stops were as follows:
Day 1 - Pachuca, Mexico to San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico
-Mex-57 to 57D to 150 through Puebla to Cordoba the 145D to Minatitlán, south to Tuxla Guitiérrez east to San Cristobal
The rest was basically CA-1 (PanAm Highway)
Day 2 - San Cristobal, Mexico to Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala
Day 3 - Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala to San Miguel, El Salvador
Day 4 - San Miguel, El Salvador to Liberia, Costa Rica
Day 5 - Liberia, Costa Rica to Panama City, Panama
Long, but very enjoyable days in the saddle.
That is a big 3 border day! Impressive. Not sure I could have pulled that one off even having all my shit together. I would think that you would have to get a little lucky and have everything work out perfectly as well?
But then again, even when I am in a hurry I find myself hanging out with the border people and taking about everything imaginable for a couple of hours even before I start the border process.
How long did that take you? Did you have a CA 4 registered to bike to do that so quickly?
Moving super fast (for me) on one trip I was able to do Panama City to San Cris in 6 days, but I tend to get distracted along the way. Takes me months to get through of Colombia. Even so, I thought that was pretty quick.
Anders, you can open Google maps and route there. It's ride-able in 6 days if you ride all day.
We have about three weeks to get from Los Angeles, California USA to Panama City, Panama. We leave on 11/11/13 and our sail meeting to Colombia is on 12/5/13.....we have no return plans
