Trying to upload an image for the first time.
Whohoo it worked!
1. Put the photo in your Dropbox' Public folder (you can use sub-folders within the Public folder).
2. Navigate to the file in your Dropbox folder, right-click.>Dropbox->copy public link
3. Use the IMG button and paste the DB link there:
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
The dropbox folder isn't mine, so I'll have to get the owner to make it public.
It's public. You're just doing it wrong.
I see. But I still can't get it to work.
If I right click on the image in the on-line dropbox folder I don't get anything that says "dropbox" or "copy public link".
If I click on "copy shortcut" I get
which is the link you used to insert the picture.
If I click on the image icon as indicated by Flood and paste the above link I get this
If I right click on the image in the DB folder in my computer I can click on Dropbox but then my choices are "Browse on Dropbox website", "share link" and "View previous version". There are no previous versions.
My computer runs Win XP and I tried it in both Firefox and IE8.
I have used other hosting sites with no such problems.
Any help will be appreciated.
Take that, get the actual image URL (right click, "copy image url"), and put that in an img tag.

I'm just not getting this. What should I right click on?
If I left click the URL above (in orange) I get the image in a new tab.
Nothing in that tab that I can right click gives me a "copy image url" option.
On the image when it's loaded at dropbox.com. But I notice it isn't loading consistently with referers. Defainltey move it to your "public" folder. Maybe it'll work better from there.
That's because it isn't in the public folder. If it is in the public folder, go to the DB folder on your computer (not on the DB website), right-click, and you will see the "copy public link" option.
I created a public folder at my DB site and copied the photos from my friends DB site to mine.
Below are screen shots of what I get when I right click on a photo in my computer DB Public folder and at the DB site.
The screenshots were uploaded to Photobucket and the photo below was also uploaded to Photobucket from the DB folder in my computer. That works and might be what I have to do.
Or maybe this from the DB help explains something.
Please note: New Dropbox accounts created after October 4, 2012 no longer have a Public folder. Don't worry! Every account created prior to this date will still have a Public folder. If you would like to enable a Public folder on a new account, see the instructions below (Creating a Public folder).
However, all the extra functionality provided by the Public folder is now accessible anywhere in your Dropbox. Now all you need to do to share and preview files and folders in your Dropbox is select Share link via your computers, phones, and tablets. Take a look at Dropbox links here or go to this article to see how it works.
Sorry, it works from my account. Looks like DB ended hotlinking for new users starting Aug 1.
It seems you're out of luck.
Actually you can still do it, but it is cumbersome especially compared to Photobucket.
I right clicked on the image in the slide show and did a "copy image location" but then I still had to either use the image icon or type the manually.
With Photobucket it's one click to copy and one to paste and your done.
I did get a trial sub to Smugmug, but it doesn't seem as simple to use as Photobucket. I'll spend a little time with it and see if I like it better.
Thanks to you and tedder for the help.
