A few friends & I wish to motorbike in Nepal-primarily on dirt roads. We ride reasonably well but are used to 650's.
    Can anyone recommend
1 A suitable bike that can be rented in Kathmandu-220 Pulsars seem to be the standard for smaller bikes. We rode 500 Enfields in India but would not want to do that on bad roads
2 Who to rent from. Looking at the options many seem to require your passport & we are not comfortable leaving these behind. We got ripped off in India with the deposits having "disappeared".
3 Any routes that would get one away from the tourist bustle?

Hi, were in Kathmandu at the moment...not sure if you received any responses. We are here two up on old BMW road tourer.
    1. Enfield have a fairly new model called Himalayan which is something like 410cc single. It was designed for more off road and comes with dual sport tyres, longer travel etc. Lots of glitzy photos and vids on Enfield website. Have seen them for hire at normal Enfield rental places here and in Pokhara. Think $40-50 per day starting price.
    2. Sorry don't have.
    3. Properly away from touristy areas (so much so that the children burst into tears when they saw us), we came in west end of Nepal. Road up to Dadeldhura pretty sweet and you can go further and around to Rara lake depending on season as tarmac ends. East-West highway very good condition at that end of country. Also we just came back from Pattale to the East of KTM. That was at 3000m and again awesome alpine roads but we cooked our brakes. You can properly see Everest from up there but cold!

Hope that is good starting point.
