Everything Is Illuminated gets 5+ stars.

Amazing movie with Elijah Wood and Eugene Hütz (the lead singer of Gogol Bordello) basically where Elijah's character goes to find out about the woman who saved his grandfather from the Holocaust. It is a serious movie at some points due to the subject matter but there are a lot of great and funny scenes.

I like foreign films. Saw these recently and they are great.

District 9 - action packed, great story line. Directed by a South African who migrated to Canada. The only movie he has ever made. In English.
Let The Right One - Interesting vampire story between two 12-year old (of course one 12-yo has been 12 many, many times :lol3). Has some funny scenes. In Swedish.
Ben X - Great performances. About an autistic kid being bullied and how he had his revenge. In Danish.

    Non-foreign film but worth mentioning.

The Merry Gentleman - directorial debut by Michael Keaton. Great character development. In English of course.
Little Miss Sunshine. Most of you may have heard of it already so I don't need to elaborate.

Watched District 9 this morning. Did not really like it, but could not turn it off. How is that? Would not watch again. Interesting story line though.

Among a few filmmakers I love Jack Tatti work, so simple so fresh and so funny, They are french but with very dialoge.

Netflix has three of his movies
    Playtime
    (Tempo di divertimento)

    M. Hulot's Holiday
    (Les Vacances de M. Hulot)

And my favorite out of this three
    Mon Oncle
    (My Uncle)

And one from Win Wenders, one of the most amazing directors of all times
    Buena Vista Social Club
The rest of his work is only on DVD

I also enjoy a "animated" movie call
Captain ski and the world of tomorrow

Because is very innovative in terms of film development

I also have a many other favorites but they are only on DVD so I will not mention them here

Some more from a French director call Luc Besson

He has made many great films like "the professional" (Leon) but the only ones available are.

    The Fifth Element

    La Femme Nikita

The Big Blue (Le grand bleu)

All of them in English for easy viewing

I usually try to catch the latest Roman Porn extravaganza that is Spartacus. Either Blood and Sand or Gods of the Arena.

Thanks, N&V! Watched it last night on your rec. Darned good for a directorial debut. I thought the grandfather was great. The whole thing was perhaps a bit too obviously Wes Anderson influenced, but a good watch nevertheless. Going to have to read the book, now...

Okay if you don't call that a remake, I don't know what is, well except for the "Wax On, wax Off" is pretty much the same thing, yes different country and ethnics but the plot is pretty much the same number by number.

I just found this movie call..

Law Abiding Citizen is kind of a police thriller but also very twisted and fun to watch
