Neutral switch pondering

    1982 R65LS,
    I have read a lot about the neutral switches leaking,personal experience here.
    However in my case the neutral light is not coming on.I have not checked anywhere else yet.
    What are the chances the "electric" switch part of the neutral switch itself failing?In neutral, is the pin on the switch up,or down?
    Should I just try a new one,or start checking bulb and other connections first?
    The bike is much tore down now, so it would be fairly easy to get at everything.

    It's easier to check the bulb and wiring than change the
    neutral switch so I would start with those

    On both the airheads iv built I had to make a new oil/neutral
    harness, I disconnect the harness and earth the neutral
    wire at the plug to check the bulb works

    The neutral switch is closed when the transmission is in neutral. Closing the neutral switch grounds the neutral indicator light wiring. One brown wire from the neutral switch is attached to a screw on the engine casing. Another wire, from the wiring harness (also brown) attaches to the other switch terminal. Grounding the wire to the switch from the harness should cause the light to go on - unless the light is burnt out. Good luck!
