No owners yet as of this writing but the bike is definitely on it's way. Who's interested? New features for the bike I spotted in Intermot reviews are in bold.

The R gets a rather distinctive new face. At its core is an aluminium carrier for the new LED lights, which also acts as a heat sink. Integrated into the lower part of the headlights are LED cornering lights which are controlled by the MSC lean angle sensor. The saddle is a one-piece design and has an all new shape from the original SA.

Optional bidirectional quickshifter which can be controlled seamlessly via the new 6.5in TFT color dash. There’s even a waterproof mobile phone compartment with integrated USB charger.

    The 1290 R gets laced 21in front
and 18in rear rims which are shod with Continental Trail Attack II or Continental TKC 80 from the factory.

The 1301cc V-twin was used in the 2016 Super Adventure, but for 2017 it gets Euro4 homologation, and its intake has gained newly developed expansion chambers for improved refinement and smoother power delivery, especially in the low and mid range.

'bout time, the 1190R was almost dangerously under-powered :lol3

My 2012 R1200 GS Adventure got stolen on Sunday, so I'm definitely looking at the 2017 1290 Super Adventure R to replace it if it isn't found.

But can it be retro-fit into the current bikes?

That would certainly make more sense! I was wondering where they would cut that much weight with the same anchor....I mean muffler. Ha-ha

I was surprised how close this was in weight to the 1090r. I think the deciding factor for me is going to be goodies vs price and that damn headlight.

I'm thinking a mesh headlight guard might help that awful headlight slightly. It is a bit unslightly, reminds me of the gen 1 versys.

    I hope so.

I do note, though, that either I'm getting used to the headlight already, or it actually does look better in video than in still photos.

Not bad. Muffler has to go. One of the vids shows a new instrument panel.

I'll wait to see what they do with the S model, otherwise may end up with a SDR.

I may be in the minority here but I like the new headlight. Wonder if they fixed the heat issues?
