I tried starting before and after loading both maps. Since I haven't been able to do the 15 minute idle adaption I'm sure the FI map hasn't been committed to the ECU yet. Either way, having the proper map shouldn't keep me from being able to start I wouldn't think, it was just effect how well it ran once it was going.
That's the plan for today. After doing all of the work required to fit the Evo2 I'm kind of second guessing whether or not I want to stick with it. It seems the battery relocation kit puts the positive terminal perilously close to the frame ( like within 3mm) and a good bump would possibly end badly for my electrical system. I'm guessing if I put in a small 8-cell battery it wouldn't be an issue.
Also, with the airbox deleted it gives much easier access to the valves (which is what I was going for) but it also makes it a lot easier for water to get into the intake.
I did have to move the coil to get the airbox out. I'll follow the wires around to see if I may have accidentally pulled something loose. Thanks for the tip.
Are you saying you've replaced the shims and it's an improvement?
I've seen the information on that reduction of thickness but haven't seen much feedback from people that have actually done it.
Ok, I misunderstood. You installed the KTM evo2 Tuning kit...
I was thinking you were talking about the Rally Raid Evo2 tank kit.
I would check the spark as suggested before. Did you put the cam in also? If so.. Maybe the camshaft timing is off?
I passed on the cam for now since you have to drop the engine out to put it in. I'll try it once I hit my next major service. Going to check into the spark and maybe pull the injector to see if it's giving any fuel.
It was working fine before I started dorking with it, so I'm sure it's just a loose connection somewhere.
Don't actually have to drop it all the way out.
Ok, I figured it out. I'm not sure the Evo2 kit is fully compatible with the 2012's.
The bottom rim of the filter is interfering with the fuel line. There's a quick disconnect on the fuel hose right where the brim of the filter sits and it's triggering the disconnect.
And in this picture the filter is supposed to attach to the black racing bracket via a screw, but there's a good 1/2" gap between the two. I've seen pics of <2011 installs where they mated perfectly. If I fit it to the bracket it doesn't reach the throttle body.
It's running now, but I'm not sure how comfortable I am leaving it in this config.

Too many Evo2 kits for one bike. haha.. The one I'm referring to is the "tuning kit". The one in that thread is the "fairing / tank kit".

Remove the stock quick disconnect now before it breaks or you break it while working on the bike. There is a nice one offered by beemer boneyard that works quite well.

So has anyone pulled the 2012 690 front forks apart yet? Or any year model?
Do these bikes 690 require you the do the inner water pump shaft seals regularly like the 640 or 950?
No I have not heard or read about a water pump going on a 690 .
and there are plenty of bikes with 10000+ miles on them .
Not saying it does not happen but the water pumps are excellent
My waterpump seal failed around 10000 miles but its not a pandemic
32,000 Miles. No problem with the water pump seal.
Yes,done lots of them.The 2011/12 have different internals,and the 12 has reduced axle offset to compensate for the extra offset on the triple clamps,which gave more steering lock.
Are you able to give me some guidance on how to soften up the compression damping on the front forks? There is a suspension guy in NZ but he hasn't really had much to do with 690's and in particular the 2012 model. I told him my problem of the front bouncing off bumps and rocks while trailriding ( I weigh 78kg in my birthday suit) and he said to unscrew the base valve from the bottom of the forks and send them up to him and he would replace the 0.15 shims with 0.10 shims. Does this sound right?
I'll pay you for your advise and buy the parts from you if necessary ktmmitch!!
