24" is what I wanted
It could be 24" if you wish. However if you are talking about distance between sidecar and bike the sidecar may need to be made slightly more narrow to compensate. This would be to keep track width within a respectable range.
I was looking at butt room. I held a tape up to the wife and she said "Wgat are you doing? Seeing how big my butt has gotten!" My reply was no sweety just seeng how big a seat would be comfy for you
A 17" would be fine but a 24" would give room to a suspension seat like what is run in a desert racer.
With Stroker wheels/tires and Claude's suspension, it already rides like your are rolling on marshmallows.
Oh FR700 say it isn't so ! You used a skid loader seat ? I must admit I'm tempted to do that myself.DB
Don't be an idiot all your life ... it's a forklift seat
Nothing that a sheepskin seat cover wont disguise if you have a kbasa complex
If Dave is tempted, it must indeed improve the riding experience?
If I was half as clever or obnoxious as I'm thought to be, it would really be something.
None of this is rocket science.DB
I'm thinking more on the line of racing seats. the kind they use in Baja
I have a door to the trunk behind the lift out seat(2 door trunk) I was thinking a seat with a little suspension that tips forward for trunk access. Claude has my rig for the leading link and a winch mount, I got a bunch of stuff I want to tweak, I would have ridden for the last 2 days but we are now having a 8 to 12" snowfall blizzard with all the extra's 30-40 mph winds and power outages and another shot of below zero F temps. Damn I love the N Hemisphere.
Please Claude remember me, snivel snivel, hurry as thomas hobbes said :"No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short."
that seat I posted is a race trim wide with head rest. they make them for a VW and as such they have a mounting kit for it that tilts forward so the passenger can get into the back. They are not bad price wise. about 170 for the seat alone and around 150 for the rail system. I bet Claude could fab up mounts that would work with the car better and have the tilt feature.
Dave big: do you have a link to more pics of the rig? possible some close up detail stuff too
Why would you want to ride (an outfit) at more than 75m / 130k on a public street? And how often is it going to happen anyway?
Enjoy it, get the sucker filthy! It's too clean.

I was thinking about access to my Dnepr trunk and found there are tons of waterproof boat seats in all kinds of colors that have a tilting back on them. Some really inexpensive.
Heading into the wet city today...
I was parked next to a Sparrow! You can see the front end on left.
Perfect day for a visit to a volcano! Is that the Nisqually Glacier?
Another view of the mountain from Reflection Lakes - still snow bound.
My route took me through Enumclaw, this is the only DMC souvenir to share since the shop is closed on Sundays.
Short outing with my daughter to Port Gamble. Nice day to enjoy an ice cream cone outside the general store.
You meet the nicest people on sidecars! I met Alex Guth, owner of Alyxmoto, today. Outstanding BMW mechanic and great service!
Claude, Alex says hello!
