First of all I want to thank you all for the great input on the Montana!

I have the Montana now since about a month and couldn't be happier. No problems here...

I have wired the rugged mount at the moment directly to the battery. I changed my mind now and want to connect it to the spare canbus connection below the handle bar (1200gs).

Can anybody confirm to me that I don't need to put the inline fuse when connected to the canbus?

    Thanks

BMW would like you to believe that you don't need it but I would leave it in the line. Better to be safe than sorry, IMHO.

    Doesn't cost any more.

Thanks for the fast reply. True, BMW makes me believe all sort of things...

I think I will follow your advice, better to be safe than sorry.

I could have used the inline fuse to replace an non waterproof one, which is wrapped in monkey tape for good...

That's because "Fuel Services" isn't a shortcut, it's a "canned" search. I forgot that, sorry.

Well nuts, now I can't remember how I did it!:gerg And the search engine here is temporarily FUBAR.

Let's see if a Master will chime in.:deal

Finally I have all the maps and I am ready to install. City Navigator 2013 and Topo 100K.

    I am on a Mac.

With the uSD card installed in the Montana and the Montana attached to the Mac I start MapInstall.

The window that comes up says:

The following maps will fit on your Montana 650 (Unit ID 3843880826) + SD Card.

City Navigator North America NT 2013.3
    TOPO U.S. 100K

Is this correct to get the maps installed on the uSD card?
I want the maps on the uSD, not on the Montana internal drive.

I don't see any option to install the maps to the uSD ONLY.

MapInstall will, by default, load everything on the uSD card first, before using GPSr internal memory. Nothing prevents you from transferring *.IMG files between them as you wish, once the install in complete.

    Detailed info available here.

Thanks to all on this thread.
I now have my Montana with maps loaded on uSD cards.

    Now the fun begins....

I tried to figure this out tonight but was not able to make a Shortcut directly to the Fuel Services category. Nearest I could get was to create a shortcut which switches to the Automotive Profile, and activates the Where To application. In the Where To app I had changed the order of the icons so that Fuel Services was second in the list order, so I didn't need to scroll.

The Shortcut was made into a Favorite, accessible through the Status Screen/Favorite Dashboard I get with a single Power Button push.

    Not perfect, but it works.

I've been trying everything to make that shortcut as well, and I am falling way short as well.

I do have many pages of direct shortcuts to most of the different settings pages (each icon has a small wrench transposed over it in the lower right corner), and I can't even figure out how I got those on the screen!

The way it was done before v4.60 was to do the following:

Setup, Main Menu, (pick where you want it), ADD ITEM, Where To?, pick the POI category. But, they have changed the category list to the highest level so you can't get to the Fuel Services or Hospital or Food/Drink, etc. This is very disappointing. Time to write an email to the Montana Team and let them know that they didn't FIX anything by changing the level at which we could access Where To? categories for the Main Menu pages.

Added to the missing features list at the Montana Wiki.

perhaps someone with older firmware can make a bunch of these up and post the XML text - once we know the codes, we could still build them from scratch :)

    EDIT:

The missing feature has been removed and rewritten into Feature Request #70.

My apologies for mis-understanding the real issue the first time.

The way it works is that you send me a PM with your request, and include your email address for the invite to be sent to.

That makes more sense, Dan. Once upon a time, this was possible, but no longer! Bummer. Engineering less flexibility into a product is never a good thing!:huh

Here's a start to the Montana Menu Page decode.

The following screenshot is what the subsequent code is referenced to:

The layout is 3x3 columns. The App position starts in the UpperLeft and flows down then move right and flows down, etc.

The interesting thing (to me anyway) is that the Drawer (if you still have one) is considered the "Main Menu"

Well, that should get you all started. Got to run...

    Cheers,
