I just saw a photo of Givi's vario style/adventure type bags but there seems to be no information available about them....Anyone else seen these??

They look pretty neat, but I haven't seen any of the usual suspects selling them in the US.

"elaborately trimmed in steel foil..." I wonder how many times I can drop my bike before all the "foil" starts peeling off? Once?? :deal

I asked Twisted Throttle if they knew when they would be getting these, and as of a couple months ago, they had no info.

I think they're a nice set of cases for the primarily pavement bound adventurer, but I'm keeping the Strom sidecase free because it takes an awful lot of dirt naps lately.

    TOP CASE

hopefully this bridges the gap between a pelican and the standard givi case.

    Pelican Case

+ square (easy to pack items like a computer)
    + secure padlocking system
    + heavy duty
    - can not fit a helmet
    - pad locks are inconvenient and require two locks
    - no high quality removable mount for a motorcycle

    Givi Case

    + light
    + fits a helmet
+ 1 key unlocks the case and removes case from locked mount
    - lock not very secure
    - plastic not as heavy duty
    - round interior with ribs makes for packing a laptop or other items not efficient.

I want a square taller pelican case that can fit a helmet, and uses one key to lock the case and remove the case from a solid steel rack.

Now that i'm thinking about it, Metal Mule makes one, but it's way too expensive.

    YES Indeed...These are the ones I am looking at. I have a 2011 R1200GS
due to be "born" in February (red) and can barely contain myself. I have bought Vario side cases but am holding off on a top case until I see the Givi. :norton

I've seen them up close and I'll be surprised if they stay water tight with all the different moving parts.

I saw them at the Dallas International Motorcycle Show. They were very hard to open and close because of the complex latches. They had multi modes so you could either have a side opening bag like a Pelican or a 1/2 top opening bag (the top opened only on one side). The sales guy had to help me figure out how they worked and even he fumbled with them. They seemed a little flimsy and had too many moving parts that could break for any type of off road use.

In a catalog photo it looked like molded plastic (ie: Givi case) with stylized aluminum overlay. What good is that? Seems like just another plastic case, in the end. Oh, with complicated latches. My wife, btw, had Givis with the multiple opening options on her Suzuki. One of those latches broke pretty quick. They were very good about sending a replacement part (Twisted Throttle, I think); but it was still a PITA.

Talked to a guy from Givi at the LA Cycle show this weekend and put my hands on a Trekker case. Apparently, the first batch they received was rejected due to some quality issues which he demonstrated by showing how the two halves of the case didn't fit together as perfect as they should. They believe the next round to be available for purchase at the end of January. They are well aware of the "I've heard that before" factor around these bags.

Still, they seemed pretty beefy considering.

Of course, after going over to the Touratech booth and checking out their top cases (I have Jesse bags and current givi top case) those things are built solid. I especially like the new black anodized bags Touratech will be offering in January.
