    :huh

    That is one ugly POS.

At least the last time they did this with the G4 cube it looked decent enough....and you had the option of buying a tower. Now you're stuck with the pre-configured model and will need to buy another unit to put add on cards in :huh. One of the good things about the last Mac Pro was how easy it was to upgrade, hell that was one of Steve Job's main selling points of it during the keynote. I know it looked like a cheese grater but hell even that's better than this "trash can" of a computer.

I've got no real preference Mac VS PC all things being equal but being one of the target markets I can tell you this definitely has me more likely to stay on the PC side.

    Edit:

They need to bring back clear plastic, it would instantly turn it from a trash can into a cool looking computer:

Just throw in a few chrome accents in there.

I am worried about how customizable it is. I have had my Mac Pro for 7-8 years and have been waiting for the redesign. Also, some of us purchased a macbook air about 35 days ago and cant return it for the new version....

This launch made a lot of people I know that work in TV pretty nervous about the already tenuous relationship between Apple and Digidesign..... things are going to start getting very interesting

I love the way it looks with the covers off though, but with them on, ugly as sin. I got a 12 core Mac Pro six months ago and its the cheese grater version. But it rocks.

If it was clear it would be great, even if just the cover was clear.

Cheese grater is a classic design. Sorry to see them go in this direction.

I use the current Mac Pro and like it. My concern in this radical a shift is how it limits my ability to stay with this chassis [what some here are calling the cheese grater] long term.

This new look is a little much. The previous Pro is good looking. and really the G4 was a good design.

The upside is that there was the fear the Mac Pro line would end. It appears not to be ending.

I wonder if it had something to do with the fact they couldn't get Thunderbolt to work on the Pro platform. Shit, my little 2012 build MacBookAir has a T bolt port!

The Thunderbolt port is their excuse to do this, basically they want you to get a 2nd chassis to run your cards in and attach it with a thunderbolt cable to the MacTrashPro.

Also if you need a new video card you wont be able to simply upgrade, you'll need a whole new MacPro.

:nod a lot more options than Apple has.

Though if you configure one the same as a base MacPro it should be a good bit cheaper.

To me it was function over form big time, look at the G4 tower and cube next to it, the G5/MacPro is ugly as hell in comparison.

The reason the whole thing is a vent is the G5 processors needed that, they had 5 fans PLUS liquid cooling. And the G5 MacBookPro's would cook your lap.

    Apple Cube 2.0

perhaps an elegant study in design but at the end of the day, who cares what their computer looks like just as long as it gets you home before dark.

speaking of which, It's going to go the way of the cube in 5.....4....3....2.....
