It looks pretty good but I was hoping for something a little closer to the Sahara 3 in GS sizes. Maybe Heidenau will make the Scout with a radial carcass.

Not much marketing hype about Tarmac performance...
Need to wait for them to hit the market for some real life reviews.

Nice to have more options when looking for 50/50 tires. Tried the K60 Scout's and I just ordered some Mitas E07 last night. Looking forward to try them but right now it's -17c outside and we have a foot of snow :ddog, a few more months.

I'll try those new karoo's once I have a better idea on how they wear!:lurk

I wonder what's Metzeler means when they said:

"The Karoo 3, a knobby tire made for bikers who love adventure and want to use their motorcycles for long off-road trips."

Interesting that the tyre introduction as reported by that 'Inter-bike' announcement starts out by saying Metzelers New 'Sport-Touring' tire.

We're all thinking 'dual-sport' (and correct me if I'm wrong), but this source is calling the Tourance Next a sport-touring tire. Maybe this is a new addition to Metzeler's line-up that isn't meant to replace the Tourance we all think of fondly as a dual sport tire. It does look more like an aggressive sport touring tire than a dual sport tire.

Perhaps our good ole Tourances will continue to be just what is so popular for us 80/20 or 90/10 folks after all and this Next model is a different spin on the current Tourance for sport touring duty.

Odd, though, that they pair it with the new '13 GS in their review.

Just a thought (which can be dangerous coming from me).

The new '13 GS is clearly more road focused when you look at the tyre sizing... This matches up with surveys BMW has apparently done, that in some markets, a lot of the GS never leave sealed roads.

I mentioned that up in the Wet Head thread and was told:

"Honestly I don't know what's the fuss about wider tires on the GS. I don't think we ought to be concerned too much about the tires"

    Yeah. That is why I didn't say 1190R. ;)

At the same time, if I go orange it will be an R with a 19 inch front. I can't imagine I would like doing 150 mph around a sweeper on a 90 width 21. " :eek2: Holy shit, Batman. I think I have done filled my tights."

I can't imagine doing 150mph on a 90 either... unless of course you throw it out of a plane, let alone a sweeper.

What are riders ideas on say a Karoo3 front and a Tourance Next rear .....,, I cant say I am over whelmed with the photos of Tourance 3 tread pattern or depth of tread.

The K3 looks like it may be an alternative to the TKC

I hope they keep the 'classic' Tourance in production, as i have liked a tyre as much since the C5 and the C66 on my R90/6

I would hate to see the old Tourances go (or the Karoo T, for that matter) but if the Karoo 3 handles as good as it looks it may be my next "good for everything, mount and forget" elected tire.

Definitely not suited for the riding I do, they would be the first thing to come off the the new GS if I were to buy one. The more I think about it, the more I don't like Metzeler tires, maybe off-road is what they only do well?

Look for a set in the Flea Market next spring. :deal :lol3

Interesting. I see at the link above the claim "30% more mileage than its predecessor" which leads me to ask: what kind of mileage were folks getting from the old ones, compared to tourances?
