Ready for SWipapu. (Only a day late)
82 riders today . Great turn out. Nothing but sunshine.
Amazing event! Thanks so much for putting it on NMTA! This one will be a must do from now on
I hate to be a whiner, but it seems every couple years somebody has to talk about scoring. So here goes....
Why is it there are about 80 riders total, yet the TM's have to beat the bushes for scorers? Not counting Saturday's extra sections for uppers, that's only 16 people at a shot. Sunday afternoon I was helping the TM's, and ran across a section where one scorer didn't show up.... that was explainable (a visitor who didn't understand the system) but then a couple lower-class riders who weren't scoring wouldn't fill in, wanted to get home early, had a special situation, etc. Cheesh.
MANY thanks to Willard Kelly who stepped up (and hiked a good ways up the mountain) and filled in.
End of whine.
I think the World Round in AZ is a buddy check.
I noticed this too. There were at least 10-15 vehicles that pulled out right after lunch on Sunday (morning riders headed home). I know some have a much longer drive than others but it does seem it's generally the same group of people scoring every event regardless of how many riders are signed up (with a few exceptions...and thanks to those!). Maybe there is something to what Brewtus did a couple of years ago and just don't announce which class rides the morning until the day of the event.
I'd rather have the regulars check (acknowledge and appreciate them) than have people check that dont want to be there.
... as long as there are enough!
How about a discounted entry fee or some inventive for checking?
Maybe someone like the club president could set the example.
No end of year points if you don't score at least one day of a two day.
Let the scorers know when the event is over.
Switch up mornings and afternoon. I have heard of clubs doing this. Colorado??
No one rides both mornings and afternoon. Pick a class and ride it.
Here is the main one. Be understanding when someone just has more important life things to do.
Lots of guys and gals have stuff to do that affords a half day offf. Some are dealing with elderly care. Some get up at 4-5:00 AM on Monday to hold a job down. Some are just trying out this whole observed riding thing.
I would rather have someone come ride 1/2 day than not at all.
Change it up Sunday at Lakefork. I would love to score an afternoon again.
Sure, I don't know how to formalize that, but if somebody is willing to drive from a long ways away (D-squared ) I don't have a problem with that. Or some other extenuating circumstance.
But "I'd like to get home early" doesn't cut it. We all would.
What prompted this was the serious shortage of scorers, 40+ riders and somewhere in the vicinity of 12-13 scorers signed up. The TM's shouldn't have to beat the bushes in that situation.
Agreed. There are some notorious freeloaders that should know better.
It makes it damn hard to get excited about giving up literally days of free time and tanks of gas to set an event and some just can't be bothered to help for a few hours.
Well, if the members of the club read this board, then I guess they will get the message.
