    Just FYI folks...

Tomorrow - Thursday, April 28 - I begin a 7-city book tour to kick off the release of my new book: Motorcycling Alabama, Fifty Ride Loops through the Heart of Dixie.

The book, published by the University of Alabama Press with additional funding from the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum - is the first and only Alabama-specific motorcyling guidebook. The fifty ride loops, which include both street and dual sport routes - are each between 75 and 150 miles in length and I have nearly 5,000 miles mapped in all.

The tour - which the publisher has dubbed the "Roll Out Ride" - begins at an independent bike shop down the street from my house called About Bikes, where there will be plenty of Top Hat BBQ on hand for the 11 a.m.-1 p.m. book signing event.

Other book signing stops on the tour include:

Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Leeds - Thursday 4-6 p.m.

Little Professor Bookstore in Homewood - Friday 10 a.m.-noon

Motorcycle Safety Program in Montevallo - Friday 2-3:30 p.m.

    T-Town Motorsports in Tuscaloosa - Friday - 5-7 p.m.

Goat Hill Museum Store in Montgomery - Saturday - 10 a.m.-noon

    Gnu's Room Bookstore - Saturday - 3-5 p.m.

At each stop we're inviting anyone who wants to ride along to join us in riding to the next stop. More detailed information about the book and the Roll Out Ride tour is available at the book's website here. (click on the "Roll Out Ride" link).

I know it's a Thursday but wanted to let fellow ADVrider members know about this and extend a personal invitation to come out and join us!

Hope to see you there! I'll probably be the only one there on a Victory hack with two Golden Retrievers in the sidecar:

Weather for all three days looks to be PERFECT! :clap

Looks like fun and I look forward to picking up a copy of the book.

For those of us who may be otherwise occupied during the tour. Where are the books available from?

    Thanks John!

They're available at most bookstores in Alabama - Book-A-Million, Barnes & Noble, etc. as well as many independent booksellers. Also online at Amazon, etc.

That's awesome, David! I'm looking forward to buying a copy, and I'd get up with you this weekend in Montgomery, but I'm supposed to be in No GA.

I remember riding with you to the Davis Ferry, you shot the video that is on your website. I was on the yellow BMW R1200GS. I will be ordering a copy of the book, always looking for great places to ride! Congrats!!!

    From David's Website this morning;

    "ROLL OUT RIDE POSTPONED

Due to the devastating outbreak of tornadoes in Alabama April 27, the Roll Out Ride events scheduled for April 28-30 have been postponed. Many of the sites on the tour were without power Thursday and authorities were restricting travel as well. Also, many of the roads we would have taken likely had downed trees and/or downed power lines blocking them. With all the destruction and loss of life in this historic tornado outbreak we felt it was not appropriate to continue with a recreation-oriented event such as the Roll Out Ride.

I am posting this from a friend’s computer as I have no power or internet service and I apologize that I could not put anything up sooner. The folks at the University of Alabama Press in Tuscaloosa attempted to update the website this morning but could not connect to the web as all power and internet service was out there.

When the events are rescheduled the information will be posted on this website.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

A new chapter or appendix needs to be added to this valuable book that includes what to do in case of a bad storm, including tornadoes. I hope everyone is OK over in Alabama today. Tuscaloosa really was hammered. :cry We are still moving along in Georgia today..... SR

Just saw this and must look for a copy of the book. Hope the sales are going well and folks getting your advice and suggestions for good rides. My in-laws live in Northern Alabama so this should be a good way to excuse myself when in the area,... to get my ride in and use the book as my "out.":lol3

Well about that. seems I was riding down the road the other day. went to down shift and found that I was somehow lacking in the ability to do so. My shifter had fallen off along the way somewhere. :eek1 Luckily, it appears the Ural doesnt need four gears. One will do just fine. I was able to limp home in 3rd just fine. Made for a bit of clutch slipping during starts but what the heck.

Anyway, a new one has arrived and is ready for installation. :clap As soon as I get another extra large bottle of locktite that is. Other than that seems to be running fine. No electrical problems since I put the new fuse box in.

Sounds great... Maybe we can get together for a tricycle ride over the holidays! I've got two passengers eager to take a day trip!
